STATUS: Full-Time

SALARY: $25.88 / hour; medical & dental insurance; retirement. $1 per hr pay differential for Bi-lingual. Generous & flexible paid time off.

HOURS: 40 hours hours per week

SUPERVISOR: Shelter Facilities Manager

OBJECTIVE: To maintain the safety, upkeep, and cleanliness of the shelter facility and provide basic on-site support needs for shelter

participants.

What You Will Do as an Emergency Shelter Specialist

As an Emergency Shelter Specialist, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment for all participants. In this position, you will:

Provide Survivor-Centered, Trauma-Informed Support

• Work with participants, co-workers, supervisors, community partners, and all other stakeholders in a way that reflects Bradley Angle's Ethical Commitments and Organizational Values.
• Offer trauma-informed care and positive behavior interventions and support to all shelter participants.
• Respond to immediate participant needs, including distributing first aid, food, clothing, and hygiene supplies.
• Provide crisis intervention and effective conflict-resolution support for participants experiencing conflict or crisis.
• Remain available and responsive to participants at all times, including during sleeping hours.

Maintain a Safe and Supportive Shelter Environment

• Ensure the cleanliness, upkeep, maintenance, and safety of all areas of the emergency shelter and surrounding grounds.
• Maintain participant safety by ensuring facility guidelines are followed in a manner consistent with organizational values (e.g., alcohol/drug policy, nonviolent communication, visitor guidelines, child supervision expectations).
• Implement emergency procedures as needed.

Support Effective Communication and Team Collaboration

• Maintain consistent and timely communication with all Bradley Angle staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
• This includes responding to emails and calls within 24 hours during work hours unless you are off.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support participant needs and uphold a cohesive, values-aligned shelter environment.
• Attend shelter site meetings, All Staff meetings, and other required gatherings.

Ensure Accurate Documentation and Reporting

• Document all services provided using the staff log.
• Follow organizational standards for accuracy, clarity, and timeliness in all documentation.

Demonstrate Professional Accountability

• Arrive on all scheduled shifts on time and communicate proactively if you will be late or absent.
• Uphold professional boundaries, respectful communication, and healthy conflict-resolution practices with participants, co-workers, and community partners.
• Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned by the Shelter Facilities Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bi-lingual, preferable Spanish speaking
• Ability to support organization and program-specific mission and goals.
• Minimum of one year working in a shelter setting.
• Must be able to provide own transportation; mileage is reimbursed
• Upon hire, complete the required 40 hours of Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocacy Training
• High School Diploma or equivalent (BA, AA, or some college coursework preferred)
