Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an Embedded Software Engineer 3. The work will be done onsite 5 days per week in Mossville, IL. This is a long-term position with an estimated duration of 24 months that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $72.00/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). The schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with potential overtime of up to 25% and occasional domestic travel.
Job Summary
We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test software features for embedded electronic control systems used in safety-focused machine applications. This role will involve embedded C++ development, Linux-based systems, system-level feature design, validation planning, and software integration. The engineer will work as part of a global cross-functional team supporting software, systems, machine, and validation activities throughout the development lifecycle. The position provides hands-on experience developing safety technology within a robotics-focused engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software features from requirements through production deployment.
Develop software using embedded C++ and Linux and manage source code through GitHub/Git-based workflows.
Perform system requirements decomposition, software design, development, code reviews, integration, and testing.
Troubleshoot software issues through technical triage, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
Develop validation plans and coordinate technical activities with global machine, systems, software, and validation teams.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a relevant field, with 67 years of industry experience; a master's degree with 5 years of industry experience is also acceptable.
Strong programming experience in C/C++, including embedded software development.
Experience with Linux, Git, debuggers, compilers, and C/GTest test suites.
Experience with system-level feature design, specification, software integration, and validation.
Knowledge of communications/data links such as CAN and Ethernet.
Ability to read schematics and component data sheets and troubleshoot embedded hardware/software issues.
Strong software design and analytical skills, along with the ability to communicate technical positions professionally and concisely.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with GStreamer.
Experience with detection sensors or sensing technologies.
Experience in robotics or autonomous systems.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with globally distributed and culturally diverse engineering teams.
