The position:
We are looking for a curious, hands-on Software Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems and working across multiple technology domains. Our team develops and supports software used to configure, test, validate, and troubleshoot complex networks of embedded systems. On any given day, you might be writing code, analyzing logs, debugging network communications, automating workflows, investigating a Linux issue, or helping diagnose an interaction between software and hardware.

What We're looking for:
- Design, develop, and maintain software applications and automation tools used to support engineering, manufacturing, and field operations.
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning software, Linux systems, networking, and hardware interactions.
- Develop tools that improve product quality, system validation, and engineering productivity.
- Investigate failures through log analysis, diagnostics, and root cause analysis.
- Work with embedded devices, networked equipment, and hardware peripherals.
- Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, testing strategies, and code-quality initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines to solve challenging technical problems.
- Create clear and effective technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and deployment procedures.
- Support engineering, manufacturing, and field teams as they diagnose and resolve complex issues.
- Continuously learn new technologies and apply them to real-world problems.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Software Development
- Hands-on software development, debugging, and troubleshooting of complex systems.
- Proficiency in C/C++, PHP, Go, Python, or other common programming languages.
- Software design, architecture, and object-oriented principles.
- Git and modern source-control practices (GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews).
- Software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including Agile / Scrum methodologies.
Linux and Systems
- Linux command-line tools, scripting, and system administration and automation.
- Deep understanding of Linux operations and operating-system fundamentals.
- System-level troubleshooting and debugging of complex software systems.
- Virtualization technologies such as KVM and libvirtd.
- Linux installation, configuration, packaging, and deployment
Networking
- TCP/IP fundamentals; DHCP, routing, switching, bridges, and VLANs
- Low-level network experience — ability to debug network communications
- Network diagnostics and packet analysis using tools such as tcpdump or Wireshark
- Troubleshooting communication issues in distributed and networked systems
Web and Data Technologies
- Full-stack front-end development: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Front-end frameworks such as React, Vue, or Svelte
- REST APIs, web services, and HTTP fundamentals
- SQL databases and query development; MySQL administration
Embedded Systems and Hardware Integration
- Familiarity with embedded Linux development and cross-compilation toolchains
- Serial communications and hardware interfaces
- Hardware and software integration; firmware deployment and diagnostics
Problem Solving and Communication
- Root cause analysis; methodical approach to reproducing, isolating, and resolving problems
- Accurate, thorough, and clear technical documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No single candidate is expected to have expertise in every area listed above. We are looking for engineers with a strong technical foundation, intellectual curiosity, and the desire to learn new technologies as projects require. Experience in several of the areas above is desired.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 5–8 years of proven experience in software engineering with demonstrated depth in Linux systems and software development
- Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers, conducting design reviews, and driving software quality initiatives
- Experience with machine learning or AI-assisted tooling is a plus
- Familiarity with avionics, aerospace, or embedded systems environments is a plus
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
May require travel up to 5% of the time to domestic and/or international locations.
The salary range of $100,000 to $167,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum.
