About the role
We are seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to help develop, maintain,
verify, and document the software running on a medical device. The contractor will work on
the device's Linux-based console control firmware, collaborating with hardware, FPGA,
systems, quality, and regulatory stakeholders.
Responsibilities
• Implement and maintain embedded C and C++ features across drivers, managers,
state-machine logic, data collection, and signal-processing components.
• Diagnose defects using source inspection, logs, target-device behavior, hardware
interfaces, and reproducible test cases.
• Design changes that preserve deterministic behavior, timing requirements, error
handling, and safe device responses.
• Develop unit, integration, hardware-in-the-loop, and regression tests appropriate to
the change and available test infrastructure.
• Follow all applicable quality-system procedures.
Required qualifications
• Demonstrated professional experience developing production embedded software
in C and C++ for medical devices.
• Strong knowledge of C++11 or later, including memory ownership, low-level data
handling, interfaces, and debugging.
• Experience with Linux-based embedded systems, cross-compilation, shell tools,
and build systems such as Make.
• Experience debugging concurrent systems using threads, mutexes, queues, timers,
and synchronization primitives.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded, cross-toolchains, Docker/Podman,
Jenkins, and Linux target deployment.
Experience developing software for medical devices, laboratory instruments,
cardiovascular systems, imaging, energy delivery, or other safety-critical products.
