The School Counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. The counselor collaborates with staff, families, and community partners to ensure student success through proactive programming, responsive services, and data-informed decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with school administration to plan and implement the comprehensive school counseling program.
Develops and maintains a written plan for effective program delivery based on the Wisconsin Comprehensive School Counseling Program Student Standards and current school data.
Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to students, families, staff, and other educational stakeholders.
Maintains current and appropriate resources for stakeholders.
School Counseling Curriculum
Provides leadership and collaborates with educators to integrate School Counseling Student Content Standards across the curriculum.
Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented classroom and group activities aligned with student needs and school goals.
Individual Student Planning
Assists all students individually and in groups in developing academic, career, and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
Accurately interprets and utilizes student data to support planning.
Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning.
Responsive Services
Provides individual and group counseling for students with identified needs and concerns.
Consults and collaborates with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and community resources regarding student concerns.
Implements effective referral and follow-up processes.
Utilizes appropriate assessment procedures when determining and structuring counseling services.
System Support
Provides staff with information and resources related to the comprehensive school counseling program.
Assists educators, parents/guardians, and stakeholders in understanding and interpreting student data.
Participates in professional development to enhance counseling knowledge and skills.
Uses technology to support and enhance the school counseling program.
Adheres to all applicable laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the counseling profession.
Conducts an annual program audit to evaluate program implementation.
Collects and analyzes data to guide program direction and priorities.
Measures outcomes of counseling program activities and communicates results as appropriate.
Monitors student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and assists in implementing interventions.
Preferred / Desired Experience
Previous school counseling experience.
Training and experience with behavioral interventions.
Knowledge of the ASCA National Model and data-based counseling practices.
Experience providing social-emotional support to adolescents.
