JOB DESCRIPTION

The Instructional Coach will partner with classroom teachers to support student learning in all content areas. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of research-based effective instruction. In order to fulfill these expectations, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers in support of the school improvement action plan. They will collaborate with teachers to get a clear picture of reality, identify goals, choose strategies to meet goals, monitor progress and problem solve until

the goals are met. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized support that is based on the identified needs of individual teachers. There will be a focus on job-embedded professional development and will expand and refine the understanding about researched-based effective instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required Education/Certification: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
• Preferred minimum 5 years classroom experience.
• Strong Literacy background.
• Preferred experience coaching adult learners with training in cognitive coaching or other coaching models.
• Understands the different stages of community/team development and builds relationship skills to develop positive/trustworthy relationships.
• Willingness to acquire skills in coaching content and instructional methodology.
• Possesses knowledge of MTSS/intervention services.
• Possesses knowledge of research-based Tier I curriculum
• Possesses knowledge of research-based intervention curriculum, like LLI.
• Possesses knowledge in building learning communities, student-centered learning, classroom engagement, formative assessment and feedback.
• Demonstrate a commitment to data driven decision-making and an understanding of assessment for learning.
• Has experience in purposeful integration of technology in the classroom.
• Possesses a deep belief in the transformative power of high quality instruction in relation to learning outputs.
• Determined to be a productive member of a dynamic team of talented individuals.
• Experience providing and facilitating large and small group research-based professional development.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Learning Services

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

• Provide job-embedded professional development for educators.
• Support staff members in developing and implementing plans to improve student learning.
• Collaborate with teachers and building administrators and district instruction coaches to utilize effective instructional approaches.
• Meet with other district leaders to align to the district framework.
• Provide professional development
• Support all faculty in the following:
• Modeling workshop strategies within classrooms.

? Demonstrating lessons that reflect research-based best practices.

? Assist teachers in planning and teaching lessons within other content disciplines where students continue to develop and use their skills.

? Provide individual and small groups of teachers support through coaching sessions, follow-up, and on-going feedback.

? Present and facilitate workshops and training that align with district focus and initiatives.

? Work with teachers in response to instructional needs and concerns.

? Attend training outside of the district and share knowledge to staff.

? Provide resources to teachers (i.e. book studies, workshops, network with other consultants, materials, etc.).

• Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
• Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance and improved classroom environment.
• Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
• Encourage professional growth and provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers.
• Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data and culturally responsive practices.
• Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
• Instruct and support teachers with curriculum software products, and classroom/curriculum related technologies.
• Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
• Support, implement and assess various instructional programs and program effects on student achievement.
• Participates in goal/plan setting and evaluation
• Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
• Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
• Monitor intervention programs and student progress by observing and meeting with teachers.
• Develops resources for Tier 2 interventions.
• Participates in building action planning working toward school goals.
• Collaborates with building principals and Title 1 staff to conduct needs assessment and plan for and monitor Title 1 programs.
• Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
• Model lessons when appropriate.
• Manage time and schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning.
• Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
• Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments.
• Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies.
