ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

POSITION: Elementary Classroom Teacher (Grade 4), Long-Term Substitute (Oct. - Feb.) GENERAL DUTIES: To develop in each student an appreciation for and proficiency in speaking, writing and reading; to create a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to develop skills, attitude and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education; and to establish positive relationships with students, parents and other staff members as a contributing team member. REPORTS TO: Building Principal QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Hold Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure as an elementary classroom teacher required;

2. A Bachelor's Degree or higher in education or related field;

3. Successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level;

4. Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school -level involvement and/or systemwide professional activities, and the interview process. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Instruct students at their appropriate developmental level;

5. Teach reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, health, physical education and other subjects to students in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Norwell Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities;

6. Knowledge of the reading, writing, and math workshop framework;

7. Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school district;

8. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with the Massachusetts Frameworks standards and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;

9. Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction;

10. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;

11. Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports;

12. Develop study skills and promote independent work habits for all students;

13. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program;

14. Utilize technology as a tool to expand students' learning experiences and to enrich the curriculum;

15. Identify student needs and work with other teachers and counselors in monitoring student performance;

16. Maintain proper student records including attendance, assessment and effort;

17. Communicate with students and their families regarding student performance;

18. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior conducive to a wide variety of instructional models such as group discussion, panel discussion, writing conferencing, peer responding, oral reports, and focused in -class writing;

19. Engage in professional development opportunities designed to cast teacher as a learner and in so doing to develop an awareness of and comfort with a variety of instructional approaches to teaching;

20. Participate in curriculum planning and other building and department activities within the school and the district; and

21. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND EVALUATION: This is a full-time, long-term substitute teaching position.
