Description

We have an opening for an Electronics Technician at a switchgear plant in Phoenix, Arizona.

This is a direct-hire job from the first day.

The pay is up to $36.00 each hour, plus a bonus. Paid overtime is available at 1.5 times your rate.

You test low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear before it leaves the plant. You are the last person who approves each unit. This is plant test work, not field service. You stay inside, at a bench, with the equipment and the drawings in front of you, and you go home at the end of the day.

Schedule:

this is a first-shift job.

A normal day starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon. In a busy week the day can start as early as 5:00 AM, or run as late as 7:00 PM, but an 11-hour day is not the standard.

Overtime is available, it is preapproved, and it pays 1.5 times your rate.

The interview is about one hour at the plant. That hour includes a tour and a short assessment on meters and test devices.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

- Test switchgear, relays, breakers, panelboards, automatic transfer switches, and control circuits before shipment.
- Test each relay for correct function and correct coordination.
- Do insulation resistance (megger) and dielectric withstand (hipot) tests.
- Do contact resistance, timing, and trip tests.
- Do primary injection and secondary injection on breakers, and check the control circuits.
- Compare each unit to the project specification, the wiring diagrams, and the one-line diagram.
- Write the test records for each project, and keep the drawings and the photographs with them.
- Find faults, report them, and work with the engineers on the correction.
- Obey lockout and tagout rules, wear your PPE, and follow NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and NETA standards.
- Help to improve the test procedures, the checklists, and the SOPs.

Qualifications

Required:

- 2+ years of low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear test work in a plant, or equivalent electrical test work.
- Skill with relay test sets, meggers, hipot testers, multimeters, timing sets, and injection sets.
- You read schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, and breaker diagrams. You know what current transformers and potential transformers do.
- You write accurate technical records, and you are careful with detail.
- You work safely near energized equipment.
- You hold a production schedule with limited supervision.
- You work well in a team.
- You know NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and NETA standards.

Preferred:

- Work with SEL, ABB, Schneider, or Siemens microprocessor relays.
- Plant commissioning, QA/QC, or manufacturing test work.
- Transformer tests, cable tests, or coordination studies.
- NETA certification, OSHA 30, or NFPA 70E arc flash and PPE training.

The PLC work in this job is only an upload of a settings file. It is not programming. And this is high-voltage power distribution test work — a background centred on RF, radio, or microwave communication is a different discipline and is usually not a match for this team.

Electronics Testing, Switchgear Testing, Protective Relay Testing, Relay Coordination, Primary Injection, Secondary Injection, Megger, Insulation Resistance, Hipot, Dielectric Withstand, Contact Resistance Testing, Timing Test, Trip Testing, Current Transformer, Potential Transformer, Medium Voltage Switchgear, Low Voltage Switchgear, Panelboard, Automatic Transfer Switch, SEL Relays, ABB, Schneider Electric, Siemens, One-Line Diagram, Schematic Interpretation, Calibration, Fault Isolation, Bench Diagnostics, NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA 30, Lockout Tagout, QA/QC, Pre-Shipment Commissioning, Manufacturing Test, Phoenix AZ, Tempe AZ, Mesa AZ, Chandler AZ, Gilbert AZ, Glendale AZ, Peoria AZ, Goodyear AZ, Avondale AZ, Scottsdale AZ, Maricopa County, Arizona

About Company

Our client manufactures low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution equipment — switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transfer switches, and complete modular power systems.

This equipment goes into data centers, hospitals, utilities, and heavy industry, and demand for it has not slowed.

This is a growing company. It is opening new capacity, it is adding people, and it promotes from inside.

The plant is modern, the equipment is current, and you work on gear that matters — if it fails in the field, a hospital or a data center goes dark. That is why this company hires people who are meticulous.

Benefits for direct employees:

- 401(k) with a company match of 50 cents on each dollar, up to 6% of your pay.
- Profit sharing. You share in the results of the company.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance. Preventive care is fully covered.
- Company-paid life insurance, AD&D insurance, and disability insurance for every employee.
- Flexible paid time off. You take the time when you need it.
- Wellness benefits: telemedicine, an employee assistance program, gym discounts, commuter benefits, and pet wellness coverage.
- Safety gear supplied by the plant: boots, safety glasses, gloves, and work apparel.
- A bonus, and a clear path to a higher job in a company that grows fast.
