Job Summary

The Electronics Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of electronic systems within Anchorage School District facilities. The location of the workstation is subject to contract language concerning shift location/bids. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Job Requirements

The following are required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
  • A minimum of four years of experience within the past six years in the field of electronics maintenance and repair. Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks assigned.

The following are preferred:

  • Knowledge of operation and repair of central controller clock and secondary clocks to include bell, buzzer, or tone generator and programmers such as Edwards, Simplex, Dukane, Cincinnati, Standard, and Rauland.
  • Working knowledge of AM and FM tuners and radio systems.
  • Working knowledge of commercial security systems.
  • Working knowledge of GPS monitoring systems.
  • Working experience using oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, transistor checkers, tube checkers, and power supplies.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and municipal electrical, fire, and building codes.
  • Commercial building experience running conduit, reading schematics, and installing and maintaining all types of electronic equipment and systems.

Essential Job Functions

  • Troubleshoots, analyzes, and repairs all types of electronic systems.
  • Maintains and repairs public address systems and commercial sound consoles including, but not limited to, Rauland Borg, Dukane, Executone, Bogen, Strom, and Altec Lansing.
  • Maintains and repairs MATV systems, scoreboard systems, and closed-circuit televisions.
  • Works from plans, prints, specifications, and established maintenance procedures to complete estimates, repair electronics, and install electronic equipment.
  • Routinely works at heights over 20 feet.
  • Proficiently uses appropriate computer applications for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Writes reports as necessary.
  • Works cooperatively with others within established maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships.

Physical /Mental Demands

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
