ELECTRONICS DESIGN ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY:
Design, develop, integrate, and support electromechanical systems for detention and correctional facilities, including high- and low-voltage electrical systems, motor controls, electronic security systems, and control system integration.

FUNCTIONS
  • Designs electrical/electronic control systems utilizing AutoCAD and other electronics control system configuration software
  • Validates existing electrical designs & specifications
  • Standardizes legacy electrical schematics across multiple product brands
  • Determines systems specifications to show how systems will be utilized for submittal and approval
  • Determines parts/materials for purchase/fabrication of systems
  • Work with AutoCAD to coordinate processes and drawings
  • Ensure the systems will be compatible with existing systems and operate without causing overloads (data/power)
  • Work with Project Coordination, Customer Service and other entities to ensure compliance with design specifications and requests for changes
  • Estimate the time and cost of engineering projects
  • Perform Q.C. checks to verify tolerances are within specifications and that fabricated product is to print (Use of various inspection and testing equipment may be required such as electronic testing equipment, (i.e.) volt meters and network testers)
  • Assist Mechanical Engineers as needed

Technical / Position-Specific REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to electrical, electronic, and electromechanical systems
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings. (Understand written instructions as well as symbolism)
  • Ability to produce engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications for electrical and control systems
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot relay logic and PLC-based control systems, including sequencing, interlocks, motor controls, safety circuits, and field I/O integration
  • Experience with or working knowledge of high- and low-voltage electrical systems, power distribution, and motor control systems
  • Ability to perform component-to-system level design and integrate electrical, electronic, mechanical, and control system components
  • Working knowledge of the AutoCAD design suite software. (ACAD Electrical is a plus)
  • Ability to analyze existing HMI/GUI applications, identify functional deficiencies, and collaborate with software developers to resolve user interface and system integration issues
  • Understanding of general concepts of network topologies, cabling mediums, routing and switching hardware, and applicable industry standards
  • Knowledge of systems including but not limited to: access control, electronic locking systems, intercom and paging (digital and analog), video surveillance (digital and analog)
  • Familiarity with UL, NEC, NFPA, and the ability to interpret national codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of construction/architectural/engineering terminology
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems & the ability to troubleshoot basic system configuration issues, including IP addressing, Remote Desktop connections, software installation and configuration
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, particularly Word and Excel

GENERAL ENGINEERING / PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong reasoning and troubleshooting mindset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with engineering, manufacturing, project coordination, customer service, customers, vendors, and outside agencies
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities
  • Ability to estimate engineering project time and resources
  • Ability to document engineering work clearly and accurately
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 5% in and out of state for engineering site surveys, troubleshooting, commissioning, and acceptance testing

DESIRED / PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • SolidWorks 3D & SolidWorks Electrical experience
  • PLC-based programming & controls experience
  • Electronic security industry certifications are a plus (Access Control, CCTV/Video Surveillance, Intercom, Electronic Security Systems, etc.)

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/electronic Engineering
  • 5+ years of engineering experience preferred
  • Must be able to understand all verbal and written communication for production and emergency instructions
