Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • The incumbent has frequent contact with people at every level in the Williamsport organization as well as with vendors and contractors. Contact with personnel from other Cable Division plants and offices are also occasionally required.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to work as a team member, frequently in a leadership role, and the ability to coach, train, and motivate employees to help achieve plant and department objectives.  He or she must maintain a high level of safety awareness and encourage it among the other employees on his or her work team.
  • This position is a key one in the Williamsport electrical/electronic repair team.  The incumbent is primarily responsible for troubleshooting electrical and electronic control devices and systems and effecting timely repairs.  Additional responsibilities include the design of new circuitry (and modifying existing circuitry) and management of selected projects as required to meet the needs of the Maintenance Department’s internal customers.
  • Safety of personnel (self and others) including, but not limited to, total compliance with OSHA and other government regulations, will be the primary consideration carrying out all aspects of this position.
  • Use available schematic diagrams, vendor supplied technical data and a full range of test equipment to troubleshoot and repair plant electrical and electronic control systems insuring maximum up time for the operating department.
  • Specify and assist in selecting new electrical and electronic equipment, components and, where applicable, installation and repair service required to maintain and upgrade plant operating systems.  Prepare requisitions for needed electronic components and supplies.
  • Inspect, calibrate, program and adjust plant electrical and electronic systems (including programmable controllers, computers and AC&DC drives) to insure optimal performance of operating systems and product of the highest possible quality.
  • Encourage and support teamwork within electrical work group.  This may include organizing work teams to solve problems and serving as a member of teams organized by others.  Support and participate in the department safety committee.
  • Recommend changes to plant electronic components and systems to improve performance, reduce costs, improve quality and insure optimal operation of associated machines.
  • Assist maintenance electricians in performing PM, repairing breakdowns, and carrying out maintenance projects.
  • Maintain highest level of housekeeping at all times.
  • Maintain records necessary to analyze how equipment is performing over time and determine what must be done to enhance its operation.
  • Carefully and thoroughly document all work.  Keep existing documentation current and accessible to other team members.  Ensure that copies of software are up to date and available to the rest of the team and that sufficient backup copies are maintained in a safe location.
  • Work nonscheduled hours when needed.
Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance role (or wire & cable experience preferred), and a proven track record of results in the installation, operation and maintenance of manufacturing processes and equipment utilized in a continuous operation.
  • Technical degrees considered a plus when supported with applicable experience.
  • A result driven individual with a proven track record in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong project management abilities.
  • Able to manage and execute multiple, complex tasks and deal easily with pressure on a daily basis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible work schedule to support facility that runs 24 hrs. a day, 7 days week.
  • The ability to operate all commonly used electrical/electronic test equipment including:
    • Oscilloscopes, including those with signal storage.
    • Digital and analog multimeters, ammeters, megohmmeters, frequency meters and signal generators.
    • Data loggers and chart recorders.
    • Power Demand Analyzers.
  • A working knowledge of computers, including PC’s and those custom designed and applied as part of control systems.  Incumbent must have the ability to download information, configure and setup software, apply and troubleshoot serial communications and repair systems with this type of equipment.  Must be comfortable with and able to use a computer as a normal working tool.
  • The ability to apply and program Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • A two (2) year associate degree in Electrical/Electronics Technology or related degree with experience, but a two-year electrical certificate with demonstrable aptitude for the work described above and a willingness to pursue further education as needed through training.doc
