Electronic Technician

Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill an Electronic Technician (Navaids) Job in Williamsburg, VA. This offshore direct-hire job is available with one of our key customers in the telecommunications and subsea fiber optic cable industry. In this role, you will apply your working knowledge of computer and navigation systems to maintain and operate shipboard systems while interacting with shipyard personnel, port engineering staff, and equipment vendors. To be successful in this position, you must have experience troubleshooting and maintaining electronic equipment, administering computers in a network environment, and working with shipboard navigation systems. This position requires worldwide travel and extended sea-going deployments of up to two months at a time.

Electronic Technician (Navaids) Job Responsibilities:

• Maintain ship navigation, shipboard communication, automation control, CCTV, and shipboard safety systems, while assisting with the maintenance of Radars, Dynamic Positioning Systems, ECDIS, and GPS systems.
• Maintain ship networks and computer systems in accordance with established Cyber Security guidelines and maintain and upgrade computer and electronic systems under the direction of the Electronic Technician Supervisor.
• Supervise shipyard work during maintenance periods and interact with shipyard personnel, port engineering staff, and equipment vendors as required.
• Support inventory control of all equipment and assist with shipboard electronic maintenance during extended offshore deployments.
• Work as part of the shipboard ET team and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Two-year associate's degree in Electronics Technology, equivalent military training, or five or more years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining electronic equipment; a degree in Electronics Technology or Computer Science is preferred.
• Experience operating and maintaining shipboard navigation systems is preferred, along with experience administering computers in a network environment.
• Solid understanding of the technical principles of electronic equipment functional operation and maintenance, with the ability to read and understand electronic schematics.
• Must be able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, and be available for worldwide travel; sea-going experience is beneficial.
• Must be able to pass a physical examination, lift 50 pounds for at-sea deployment, obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance, and understand RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communication protocols; Security+ and GROL certifications are preferred.
