What your day looks like
You start by reviewing work orders, test manuals, specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to plan your test approach. At the bench, you initialize computer-controlled test programs for semiconductor devices and component test equipment, then set up instruments like an oscilloscope, signal generator, frequency meter, and spectrum analyzer. As units move through your station, you analyze results, isolate faults to the component level (cables, transistors, diodes, relays, and more), and clearly document every defect and root cause you uncover.
When a fixture misbehaves or a test method needs refinement, you loop in engineers, fellow technicians, and production personnel to resolve issues fast. Between diagnostics, you assemble electronic components and subassemblies into finished products or systems that meet customer requirements and quality specifications. On the shop floor, you may also install, program, or repair automated equipment—such as industrial robots and programmable controllers—then reassemble and verify performance using hand and power tools.
Core responsibilities
- Interpret work orders, test manuals, performance specs, wiring diagrams, and schematics to define procedures and select test equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair control panels, printed circuit boards, and wire harnesses using instruments including an oscilloscope, signal generator, frequency meter, and spectrum analyzer.
- Run computer programs to control semiconductor devices and electronic test equipment prior to and during validation.
- Install, program, and/or repair automated machinery and equipment (e.g., robots, PLCs); replace defective parts and reassemble equipment using appropriate tools.
- Assemble medium/heavy and medium/high complexity control panel assemblies; perform mechanical/control panel assembly using torque wrenches, screwdrivers, socket sets, and similar tools.
- Mount transformers, relays, PCB assemblies, breakers, switches, and terminal blocks to chassis panels; connect wiring harnesses and individual wires to breakers, PCBs, switches, terminal blocks, connectors, and relays.
- Build electronic components, subassemblies, products, or systems to meet customer requirements and quality specifications.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, production staff, and supervisors to resolve testing and fixture issues.
- Support other areas as needed to keep production moving.

Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical requirements
Regularly required to talk or hear. Frequently required to sit; also required to stand, walk, and/or sit. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
