Position Overview

 

The Electronics Repair Technician II performs advanced troubleshooting, repair, testing, programming, and rework of electronic assemblies and finished products. This position serves as a technical resource within the repair department, independently diagnosing complex electronic failures, supporting root cause investigations, and assisting in the development of repair and test procedures.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Advanced Diagnostics and Repair

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and component-level repair of electronic assemblies, PCBs, and finished products.
  • Diagnose complex product failures using schematics, technical documentation, and test equipment.
  • Conduct failure analysis to identify root causes of recurring product issues.
  • Perform rework and repair of surface-mount and through-hole components.
  • Verify repairs through functional, environmental, and system-level testing.

Product Programming and Testing

  • Program and configure products using automated test equipment (ATE), programming stations, and diagnostic software.
  • Validate engineering changes and product updates through repair and testing activities.

RMA and Repair Process Management

  • Process complex warranty and non-warranty repairs.
  • Review repair documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts usage, and failure trends.
  • Support repair turnaround time objectives while maintaining quality standards.

Quality and Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities.
  • Recommend improvements to repair processes, test procedures, tooling, and work instructions.
  • Assist Engineering and Quality teams with product investigations and reliability improvements.
  • Participate in 5S, Lean, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with ESD, safety, and workmanship standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent training in Electronics Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of electronics repair, troubleshooting, or manufacturing experience.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Digital multimeters
    • Power supplies
    • Signal generators
    • Automated test equipment (ATE)
  • Advanced soldering and rework skills for both through-hole and SMT components.

Preferred Qualifications

  • IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 certification.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or field service repair operations.
  • Knowledge of ESD control programs and quality management systems.
  • Experience participating in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma initiatives.

  • Ability to diagnose intermittent and complex failures.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and handling of small electronic components.
  • Ability to perform precision soldering and inspection work.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate repair and test equipment.
