Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 7 months
  • Pay Rate: $25.00 $28.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Monday Friday, 7:00 AM 3:30 PM (First Shift); overtime available as needed

Job Summary

The Electronic Lab Technician will support product development, certification, and sustaining engineering by performing electrical and mechanical testing in a power testing laboratory. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct mechanical and electrical testing to meet the demands of the engineering departments to achieve product development, sustainment, and certification goals. This position will perform functions necessary to support product development and maintenance of line activities which include assembly of products and test setups. Additional requirements will be to help maintain lab test equipment, track test request status, and samples. This position will need to support all EHS requirements and 5S initiatives.

Testing performed in this lab includes thermal testing, overload testing, endurance testing, short circuit/withstand testing, and UL, IEC, and CSA certification and recertification testing.

Work breakdown: 60 70% hands-on lab work, including test setup, wiring, equipment assembly, and general manual labor; 30 40% documentation, data collection, test reports, scheduling, and email communication.

Equipment and tools used include hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, impact guns, etc.) and a sit-down forklift (training provided).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct various electrical tests in accordance with UL, CSA, IEC, and NEMA standards for electrical distribution products, as required, to meet the product development and sustaining testing demands.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable IEC, UL, and NEMA testing standards.
  • Record accurate test data on standardized forms for delivery to the project engineer.
  • Assist in the repair and replacement of test fixtures and maintain an active list of test fixtures on hand to meet the demands of the engineering department.
  • Contribute to organizing and maintaining lab 5S environment to meet goals and to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of safety requirements.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time to increase the efficiency in the lab and provide engineering on-time test results.
  • Share knowledge with other technicians as necessary to improve the technician pool's core knowledge and capabilities.
  • Complete additional assignments or tasks requested by manager.
  • Conduct pre and post calibrations, run dielectric/thermal testing.
  • Circuit configurations, and vibration testing.

Required Skills

  • Electronic, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and software aptitude is required.
  • Detailed skill in use of computer for test documentation and analysis.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Comfortable using hand tools
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics or blueprints (preferred, not required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma with relevant technical experience is acceptable.
  • Technical/trade school education is preferred.
  • Associate degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechanical Technology is a plus.
  • Candidates with Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Computer Engineering degrees are also welcome.

Required Experience

  • 1 3 years of related technical experience required.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Candidates with hands-on technical backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including: automotive mechanics, HVAC technicians, electrical or mechanical technicians, industrial maintenance technicians, manufacturing technicians, and other mechanically inclined technical trades.
  • Previous laboratory testing experience is NOT required.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Non-union facility.
  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs (50 lbs preferred); team lifting and lifting equipment are available when needed.
  • Manual labor involved; candidates should be comfortable working in a hands-on engineering test lab environment.
  • Overtime available as needed.
