Motive Workforce is seeking an Electronic/Electrical Engineer to support the design, integration, testing, and production of battery-electric locomotive systems. This hands-on position will work across electrical architecture, embedded controls, high-voltage systems, wire harnesses, communication networks, and system testing.
Responsibilities
- Support electrical system design and architecture for battery-electric locomotives
- Develop schematics and low-speed PCB layouts for control systems
- Design wire harnesses, cable routing, and electrical interfaces for high-reliability applications
- Develop and integrate embedded controllers using STM32 or similar platforms
- Implement CAN Bus, Ethernet, Modbus, I2C, and SPI communications
- Support electrical systems operating at 1,500V DC and above
- Apply EMC and EMI mitigation techniques within high-voltage systems
- Conduct system and subsystem testing, including automated test development
- Integrate controllers and embedded systems with mechanical and software teams
- Support Linux-based system configuration and embedded software integration
- Partner with production engineering on DFM and production optimization
- Troubleshoot electrical integration and test issues during prototype builds
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline
- Three or more years of electrical or electronic systems design experience
- Hands-on experience with high-voltage DC systems, preferably at 1,500V or above
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, preferably KiCad
- Working knowledge of CAN Bus, Ethernet, Modbus, I2C, and SPI
- Experience integrating embedded controllers and electromechanical systems
- Knowledge of wire harness design and cable-routing principles
- Experience designing for vibration, temperature, EMC, and EMI requirements
- Basic Linux experience
- Familiarity with automated electrical testing
- Comfortable working in a hands-on prototype, test, and production environment
- Able to work independently in a fast-moving engineering organization
Preferred Experience
- Battery-electric vehicle, BMS, marine, industrial, locomotive, or rail experience
- Safety-critical systems experience, including ISO 26262 or EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129
- Experience designing EN 50155-compliant electronic equipment
- High-voltage electrical safety and protection-system experience
- Experience taking electrical systems from prototype through production
This position will begin as a project-based contract and may convert to direct employment based on performance, project demand, and business needs.
Pay Rate: $65.00 to $80.00 per hour, depending on experience
