Job Number Title: Electrician/General Maintenance-CAT IV Pay Schedule: AFSCME Plant Maintenance FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Assistant Supervisor of Plant Maintenance JOB SUMMARY Assumes primary responsibility for the installation, repair and maintenance of lighting fixtures, electrical fixtures, wiring, motors, switch gear, generators, appliances and other similar electric devices, including special theatrical and athletic lighting systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Determines which repair jobs should be performed by outside contract and advises the maintenance supervisor accordingly. Coordinates and performs electrical repair work with other trades and outside contractors. Oversee all electrical repair work performed by personnel. Interprets drawings and schematics related to the wiring of buildings and equipment. Instructs custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods and procedures to perform minor electrical repair and install work. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase. Obtain electrical permits as required by codes. Estimates costs of electrical repair projects in terms of labor and material Maintain a safe operating environment. Required to climb and work at heights in excess of forty feet. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Assists with snow removal. Performs other duties as assigned. . MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (at the time of application) Must hold a local limited or Master electrical license (or) the ability to obtain such license within six (6) months of employment. A minimum of five (5) years experience in the electrical trade is required. An electrical apprenticeship or vocational training will be considered. High School diploma or its equivalence. A thorough knowledge of electrical tools, materials and procedures used in the electrical trade. The ability to communicate orally and in writing. Valid Class "C" driver's license. Furnish own tools (special tools will be furnished by the Board of Education). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to utilize interpersonal communication skills. Outstanding human relation skills. Ability to read, interpret, prepare and maintain accurate reports and records. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Heavy Work: Exerting exceptionally strong but not constant physical effort to perform very heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials up to 50 pounds regularly, 50- 100 pounds with assistance frequently and in excess of 100 pounds with assistance occasionally, visual perception and discrimination, the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, perceive and discriminate color, perceive odors, and require oral communications.
