Reporting to: Operations Manager
At FAST Technologies, our people are our greatest asset. We are a dynamic, fast-growing engineering company that designs and builds custom industrial automation, robotics, and chemical delivery systems for global clients. We foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-energy environment where talented individuals can thrive - and we support this with a four-day working week that gives our team more time for life outside work.
The Role
We are seeking a practical, organised and quality-focused Electrical Technician to join our team and support the successful delivery of our engineering projects. You'll work on a varied mix of products and engineering activities, including FAST's specialist battery-related products and, where required, equipment and assemblies connected to our automation projects.
This is a practical role for someone who enjoys working with their hands, reading technical information, solving problems and taking pride in producing safe, reliable, high-quality work. You'll work closely with experienced engineering colleagues and will be expected to manage your tasks responsibly while contributing to shared project deadlines. There may be opportunities or requirements to support installation, commissioning, or technical activities at customer sites, depending on project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, wire, build and modify electrical and electronic components, control panels, wiring looms and equipment, following engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, technical manuals and work instructions.
- Carry out electrical inspections, functional testing and calibration of new, modified and production equipment, using appropriate test equipment such as multimeters and insulation testers to confirm it is safe and operating as intended.
- Diagnose faults, investigate their causes and carry out repairs, adjustments or modifications within your level of competence, escalating more complex issues when required and supporting the testing and improvement of prototypes and equipment.
- Work closely with electrical, electronic and automation engineering colleagues to resolve technical issues, coordinate materials and activities, and help deliver work to agreed project milestones and deadlines.
- Complete accurate job-related paperwork and records, including test results, faults identified, work completed and changes made, while providing professional technical support for customer-related queries or equipment issues when required.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment, following FAST and customer health, safety and quality procedures, and represent FAST positively through reliable, high-quality work and ownership of your responsibilities.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- A relevant electrical or electronic engineering qualification, such as City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or above, BTEC, HNC/HND, or equivalent practical, time-served experience.
- Practical experience working with electrical or electronic equipment, components, wiring or assemblies, with confidence using hand tools and electrical test equipment such as multimeters and insulation testers; experience with torque tools is an advantage.
- The ability to read and follow technical drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, instructions or manuals, or a willingness to develop this skill, together with a methodical approach to fault-finding and strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work constructively with colleagues, organise your workload, work independently when appropriate and take responsibility for the quality and safety of your work.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to complete job records, test documentation and other work-related paperwork accurately.
Desirable
- Familiarity with industrial control systems, PLCs or automated equipment.
- Experience with Siemens TIA Portal or other PLC programming / engineering platforms.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems or experience working with mixed electrical and mechanical assemblies.
What we offer
- The opportunity to work on progressive, innovative engineering and automation projects.
- A four-day working week designed to support a healthier work-life balance.
- Continuous training, development and upskilling opportunities.
- Pension scheme.
- Regular on-site staff engagement days to strengthen teamwork and company culture.
