The Job You Will Perform:

The Electrical Reliability Engineer is responsible for improving the reliability, availability, and maintainability of electrical assets across the Pensacola Mill. This position provides technical leadership and engineering support to maintenance, operations, and capital project teams to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of mill equipment. The engineer plays a critical role in driving reliability improvements, reducing downtime, optimizing maintenance strategies, and supporting asset lifecycle management.

This position operates in an industrial pulp and paper manufacturing environment and requires regular field interaction with production and maintenance teams. The role includes exposure to operating equipment, maintenance activities, and occasionally off-hours support during critical equipment outages or reliability events.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote and support a strong safety culture.
• Ensure compliance with corporate safety policies and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in electrical safety initiatives, audits, and incident investigations.
• Support NFPA 70E, OSHA, and mill electrical safety practices.

Reliability Improvement

• Lead efforts to improve the reliability and performance of electrical systems and equipment.
• Analyze equipment failures to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and execute reliability improvement plans for critical assets.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.
• Facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and track corrective actions to completion.

Asset Management

• Maintain and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical equipment.
• Establish and monitor key reliability metrics, including Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), equipment availability, and maintenance cost performance.
• Develop asset strategies for motors, drives, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, power distribution systems, and process control equipment.
• Support long-term capital planning through equipment condition assessments and lifecycle analysis.

Predictive & Preventive Maintenance

• Utilize predictive maintenance technologies including:

• Infrared thermography

• Electrical testing and diagnostics

• Motor circuit analysis

• Power quality analysis

• Online monitoring systems

• Review and optimize PM/PdM tasks within the mill maintenance management system.

• Partner with maintenance planners and supervisors to ensure effective execution of reliability programs.

Power Distribution & Electrical Systems

• Provide technical expertise for medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.

• Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards, and mill safety requirements.

• Support electrical system studies including:

• Arc flash analysis

• Coordination studies

• Load flow analysis

• Short-circuit studies

• Assist in troubleshooting complex electrical and control system issues.

Capital Projects & Engineering Support

• Support mill capital projects from concept through startup.
• Develop technical specifications and scope documents for electrical equipment purchases.
• Review engineering drawings, vendor documentation, and project designs.
• Participate in commissioning and startup of new equipment and systems.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and Engineering teams.
• Provide technical coaching and mentoring to electricians and maintenance personnel.
• Lead cross-functional teams focused on reliability improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with vendors and subject matter experts to resolve technical challenges.

The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:

Required:

• Bachelor''s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Minimum 3 years of industrial electrical engineering or reliability engineering experience.
• Knowledge of industrial power distribution systems and motor control equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Preferred:

• Experience in the pulp and paper industry or other heavy manufacturing environments.
• Certification in Reliability Engineering (CRE) or related discipline.
• Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), RCFA, and predictive maintenance technologies.
• Working knowledge of:
• VFDs and motor control systems
• PLCs and industrial control systems
• Power quality analysis
• SAP PM or similar maintenance systems
• Medium-voltage systems (4.16kV, 13.8kV, etc.)
