Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Power Systems Engineer Federal for immediate employment in their Roanoke, VA office. This role supports Department of Defense (DoD) and mission-critical facility projects and requires an active security clearance. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in power distribution design, strong client-facing skills, and the ability to lead technical efforts throughout the full project lifecycle.
Lead or support electrical design for power distribution infrastructure, including medium- and low-voltage systems, grounding, and lightning protection for DoD and mission-critical facilities.
Develop integrated control sequences and schematics for power distribution equipment.
Prepare and edit technical specifications for electrical and power distribution components.
Interface directly with client subject matter experts (SMEs) to coordinate system components, controls, and integration.
Develop designs from site assessments and concept design through final construction documents.
Interpret client requirements and translate them into code-compliant engineering solutions.
Create and oversee electrical plans and details using Revit and/or AutoCAD.
Perform power system studies using SKM (or similar software) by developing electrical system models.
Conduct on-site electrical surveys and field visits during construction.
Perform quality control reviews of electrical engineering designs.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers.
Prepare and review design and construction cost estimates for electrical scopes of work.
Support construction administration, including shop drawing reviews and RFIs.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
and 6+ years of relevant electrical power systems design experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance
U.S. Citizenship (required due to the nature of the work)
Valid U.S. Driver's License and ability to pass a motor vehicle records review as a condition of employment
Experience with spot networks, micro-grid systems, lighting design, and electrical commissioning
Experience supporting A/E services proposal development
Background working in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments with direct client interaction
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Ability to prioritize, multitask, self-initiate, and adapt with minimal supervision
Telecommunications design experience, including telecom networks, A/V, and electronic security systems for DoD and mission-critical projects
Knowledge of Department of Defense requirements, including Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and the National Electrical Code (NEC)
