Infinity Technical Services Division, Inc. is expanding into Florida and seeking an experienced Electrical Testing, Commissioning & Relay Technician to help establish our new Tampa-area operation.
Position Summary
This technician will support OEM startup, commissioning, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting activities involving low- and medium-voltage electrical power-distribution equipment. The position will primarily serve customers throughout Florida, with occasional travel outside the state for large outages and other major projects.
The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded electrical testing technician with strong protective-relay capabilities, good computer skills, and the ability to work independently in customer-facing field environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform startup, commissioning, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting on electrical power-distribution equipment rated from 208 V through 38 kV.
Support low- and medium-voltage switchgear, UL 891 switchboards, MCCs, VFDs, panelboards, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, power meters, and associated control systems.
Tests, troubleshoot, configure, and verify protective relays and related control circuits.
Review relay settings, drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
Set up, program, configure, and verify power meters, variable-frequency drives, circuit breakers, electronic trip units, protective devices, and related equipment.
Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, communication, control-power, and equipment-configuration issues.
Use manufacturer-specific software and test equipment to configure, test, and document electrical equipment.
Document test results, deficiencies, repairs, equipment settings, and completed work using PowerDB, Microsoft Office, OEM software, and Infinity TSD reporting systems.
Coordinate field activities with OEM representatives, customers, contractors, project managers, and other technicians.
Provide professional technical guidance and clear communication to customers during startup, maintenance, and troubleshooting assignments.
Follow Infinity TSD safety procedures, customer requirements, manufacturer instructions, and applicable industry testing practices.
Support NETA acceptance-testing and maintenance-testing projects based on the technician’s experience and continued training.
Protective Relay Responsibilities
Protective-relay testing and troubleshooting will be an important part of this position. Candidates should have experience with—or a strong interest and demonstrated ability to learn—the following:
Protective-relay testing and functional verification
Relay settings review and configuration.
Secondary injection testing
Trip-circuit and control-circuit verification
Interpretation of relay logic, electrical schematics, and control drawings
Use of relay test equipment and manufacturer-specific relay software
Accurate documentation of settings, test results, discrepancies, and corrective actions
Required Qualifications
Direct, hands-on experience with electrical power-distribution equipment.
Working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and associated electrical controls.
Experience with electrical testing, startup, commissioning, maintenance, or field troubleshooting.
Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Strong computer skills and the ability to learn multiple testing, configuration, and reporting applications.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and electronic test-report documentation.
Ability to organize assignments, manage documentation, and work independently with limited supervision.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% based on project requirements.
Ability to travel throughout Florida and occasionally outside the state for large outages or project work.
Availability to work extended hours, nights, or weekends when required by outage, startup, or emergency-service schedules.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated protective-relay testing experience.
Familiarity with PowerDB.
Experience using OEM testing, programming, and configuration software.
Experience configuring power meters, VFDs, electronic trip units, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
Previous NETA acceptance-testing or maintenance-testing experience.
NETA certification or other relevant electrical-testing credentials.
Experience working directly with electrical equipment manufacturers, OEM representatives, or factory-service organizations.
Experience with primary current injection, secondary injection, circuit-breaker testing, transformer testing, or related electrical test equipment.
Travel and Territory
This position will be based in the Tampa area and primarily serve customers and projects throughout Florida. Travel may average approximately 50%, depending on customer demand and project schedules.
Most assignments will be within Florida. Occasional travel outside the state may be required to support major outages, commissioning projects, or other Infinity TSD field operations.
