<-- end mainnav --> Cooper Union ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION Posted On September 3 2026 Hours Full Time Description The Department of Electrical Engineering at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Electrical Engineering. We seek candidates with strong expertise in computer architecture and digital hardware systems with the ability to contribute to core undergraduate instruction in areas such as computer organization and architecture digital logic and hardware design FPGA-based systems embedded computing and hardware-software integration. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching connect these foundations to emerging areas including embedded and edge AI AIML hardware acceleration intelligent embedded systems reconfigurable computing RISC-V and emerging processor architectures hardware-software co-design and energy-efficient computing. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in computer and electrical engineering develop advanced courses in their area of expertise advise and mentor masters students maintain an active program of scholarly research and engage undergraduate students in research design and project-based learning. The Department emphasizes rigorous undergraduate education close faculty-student interaction hands-on experimentation and engineering design. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring and an interest in integrating laboratory experiences prototyping design projects and contemporary engineering tools into the curriculum. The Cooper Union being a small institution faculty are expected to have a broad perspective teaching and leading in areas well beyond their narrow discipline. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to help shape the Departments evolving computer engineering curriculum laboratory infrastructure and project-based educational experiences. As artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies transform engineering practice we welcome candidates interested in thoughtful and responsible approaches to integrating AI into engineering curricula design practice assessment and student learning. Cooper Unions small scale and highly engaged student body provide significant opportunities for close faculty-student collaboration through undergraduate research independent projects senior design interdisciplinary initiatives competitions and other experiential learning. Opportunities also exist for collaboration across the Albert Nerken School of Engineering and with Cooper Unions schools of Architecture and Art and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Qualifications Applicants are required to have an earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates should demonstrate•    Strong preparation in computer engineering particularly computer architecture digital hardware design FPGA-based systems embedded computing or closely related areas•    Ability and interest to teach foundational undergraduate computer engineering courses•    Potential for excellence in teaching student mentorship and scholarly research•    Interest in hands-on laboratory-based and project-based engineering education and•    Commitment to collaborative curriculum development and departmental academic life. Experience in embedded or edge AI AI hardware hardware-software co-design processor architecture FPGA-based computing or intelligent embedded systems is particularly desirable. Industrial or interdisciplinary research experience undergraduate research mentorship laboratory or curriculum development and experience pursuing externally funded research are also valued. The Department of Electrical Engineering The Department of Electrical Engineering at The Cooper Union provides students with a rigorous foundation in electrical and computer engineering while emphasizing design experimentation analytical thinking and close engagement with faculty. The Department is advancing its curriculum and educational experiences to prepare students for a rapidly evolving engineering landscape. Current priorities include strengthening experiential and project-based learning expanding undergraduate research and interdisciplinary opportunities increasing engagement with industry and emerging technologies and developing pathways that allow students to connect foundational engineering knowledge with research design innovation and professional practice.
