Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Automotive Wiring Harness Design Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of vehicle wiring harness systems. This role focuses on wiring harness packaging, engineering change management, manufacturability improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and support of vehicle build activities within a dynamic automotive environment.
The ideal candidate has a strong engineering background, automotive industry experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively across design, manufacturing, and customer teams.
Responsibilities
- Work with design teams to package wiring harnesses within vehicle platforms while adhering to customer design standards and engineering requirements
- Support vehicle build events and prototype activities at customer locations
- Incorporate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles into wiring harness designs
- Identify and support cost reduction and product improvement initiatives
- Specify, document, and coordinate engineering changes throughout the product lifecycle
- Create and issue engineering documentation required to authorize design changes
- Track engineering changes and associated costs
- Review warranty claims and field issues to identify product improvements and corrective actions
- Analyze design challenges and develop effective engineering solutions
- Support product development, validation, and manufacturing activities
- Collaborate with manufacturing, testing, quality, and customer teams throughout program execution
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Electrical Engineering preferred
- Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Industrial Engineering preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of automotive industry experience
- Strong problem-solving and logical-thinking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic customer environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing facilities and customer locations, including international travel when required
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with wiring harness design, routing, and packaging
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles
- Experience supporting vehicle launch and build events
- Familiarity with automotive engineering change management processes
- Experience with product design, development, validation, and testing activities
- Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes
- Graduate degree in Engineering or a related technical field
