Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Architect, design, and implement embedded hardware and firmware (bare-metal and RTOS environments) for ultrasound system subsystems, focusing on mixed signal, RF, and optoelectronic components.
• Extend and maintain existing firmware codebase, ensuring high quality, reliability, and performance.
• Design and develop software tools for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and automated production testing to validate embedded systems rigorously.
• Lead the creation of detailed test specifications, define acceptance tolerances, and contribute to verification and validation documentation for regulatory submissions.
• Own the operation, tweaking, and implementation of new features in FPGA RTL (Verilog/VHDL/Amaranth).
• Architect and implement the end-to-end data acquisition pipeline (Hardware, Firmware, Software, potentially Cloud integration) for testing, characterization, and manufacturing support.
• Optimize embedded subsystem performance and lead their integration (HW/FW/SW) into the overall system architecture.
• Define requirements for capital test equipment needed to support development and production testing.
• Lead failure analysis and root cause investigation for embedded system issues.
• Collaborate closely with electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability within a regulated framework.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; Master's or Ph.D. is highly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in embedded systems development, with a strong track record in both hardware and firmware design.
• Extensive experience with firmware development in bare-metal and RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr).
• Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and potentially other relevant languages like Rust.
• Expertise in FPGA development using Verilog, VHDL, or Amaranth HDL.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB design using tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad.
• Hands-on experience with mixed-signal, RF, or optoelectronic circuit design and prototyping.
• Demonstrated ability to architect and implement complex embedded systems and test infrastructure.
• Experience developing test software and implementing test automation solutions.
• Familiarity with designing data acquisition systems and working with standard lab equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles relevant to high-performance embedded systems.
• Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, aerospace, defense, finance), with direct experience contributing to design controls, risk management, and documentation for regulatory submissions (e.g., FDA 510(k),CE Marking).
• Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills at the hardware and firmware levels.
• Experience with Linux environments for development.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Direct experience in the medical device industry, especially with ultrasound or similar imaging/sensing systems.
• Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
• Familiarity with mechanical design concepts for rapid prototyping.
• Experience managing inventory or assets related to technical equipment.
