Job Description:
About the Company
A specialized engineering and technical services firm supports developers and operators of oil and gas pipelines and electric transmission systems. Its services span civil, process, mechanical, and instrumentation and electrical engineering, as well as project management, survey and mapping, and right-of-way acquisition. The firm works from early concept through project completion on both large linear projects and site-specific developments. Its culture is built on safety, client advocacy, and integrity.
Position Overview
The firm is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design at natural gas facilities, from conceptual studies through construction and commissioning. This role owns technical quality across power distribution, hazardous area classification, grounding, lighting, and instrumentation and control interfaces. You will act as a primary technical contact for clients, mentor junior staff, and make sure every deliverable meets applicable codes, client standards, and the firm's safety expectations.
Key Responsibilities

- Prepare electrical scopes of work, man-hour estimates, and schedules for proposals
- Track discipline budget and schedule and report status to project managers
- Mentor electrical engineers, EITs, and designers on technical skills, codes, and the path to licensure
- Guide engineers and designers in developing drawings, calculations, and specifications
- Contribute to internal standards, templates, design guides, and lessons learned
Design & Engineering
- Lead electrical design for new, retrofit, and life-extension projects at LNG peak shaving plants, gate and regulator stations, and related gas infrastructure
- Develop or direct electrical design packages, including one-line diagrams, hazardous area classification drawings, power distribution and MCC layouts, cable and conduit schedules and plans, grounding designs, and lighting designs
- Perform or direct electrical studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, cable sizing, voltage drop, and lighting calculations
- Specify and evaluate electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, UPS systems, and standby generators
- Provide electrical and controls input to HAZOP, LOPA, and constructability reviews
- Coordinate with controls and instrumentation engineers on PLC and DCS power, control panel design, instrument power and grounding, and SCADA interfaces
- Review control schematics, interconnection diagrams, and loop drawings for consistency with the electrical design
- Seal drawings and calculations as the Professional Engineer in charge where licensed
Field & Construction Support

- Demonstrated experience leading the electrical discipline from design through construction support
- Advanced engineering knowledge, with proven ability to solve complex problems and weigh the consequences of alternative solutions
- Ability to write clear, effective proposals and cost estimates
- Ability to lead teams of engineers, designers, drafters, and survey crews across one or more projects
- Ability to manage project work within approved budgets, prioritize by impact, and adapt to changing priorities in a deadline-driven environment

- Direct experience at LNG peak shaving, satellite LNG, or liquefaction facilities in the Northeast
- Experience with medium-voltage distribution (5–15 kV) and utility service coordination
- Familiarity with cathodic protection and impressed current systems
- Experience working with Northeast gas utilities and their engineering standards
- Master's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in both office and field settings. Office work may involve prolonged sitting, extended keyboarding, and computer use. Field work may include outdoor work and active construction sites in all weather conditions.
