Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Power Systems Equipment Design

Job Description

Join a dynamic product development team as an Electrical Engineer focused on the design, development, and manufacturing support of critical power distribution and protection equipment for commercial, industrial, and data center applications. In this role, you engineer medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) switchgear, low-voltage switchboards, power distribution units (PDUs), and integrated power systems and controls that deliver high reliability, safety, performance, scalability, and efficiency. You also contribute to ongoing R&D, product enhancements, and the development of new power products, technologies, and integrated solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical power distribution and protection equipment, including MV and LV switchgear, LV switchboards, PDUs, and associated control systems for commercial, industrial, and data center applications.
• Create and maintain detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, control and wiring diagrams, panel schedules, three-line diagrams, bills of materials (BOMs), equipment layouts, and quality inspection documents to support manufacturing and customer delivery.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other cross-functional teams to ensure proper integration, manufacturability, and robust product performance.
• Conduct power system analyses and simulations to validate performance, safety, and compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
• Interface with customers and internal stakeholders to gather technical requirements, resolve engineering issues, and provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable UL and IEEE/ANSI standards, relevant NEC requirements, and customer-specific specifications.
• Support design verification, factory testing, certification activities, quality assurance, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for both new and existing products.
• Participate in R&D initiatives, new product development, and continuous improvement efforts focused on performance, reliability, safety, modularity, manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, controls, monitoring, and evolving customer and market needs.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
• At least 2+ years (ideally 4-8 years) of relevant experience in electrical equipment design, power distribution design, or related power systems engineering.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, including MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, PDUs, and related protection and control equipment.
• Hands-on experience creating electrical design documentation, including CAD drawings, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and three-line diagrams.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical (preferred), and familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical or EPLAN.
• Working knowledge of UL standards or the National Electrical Code (NEC), including low-voltage systems (e.g., 480V) and UL 508A.
• Demonstrated ability in power distribution design and electrical design for commercial and industrial applications.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to produce clear technical documentation and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing principles for electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of applicable product standards, electrical codes, and safety practices, including UL 891, UL 1558, UL 67, UL 508A, relevant IEEE/ANSI C37 standards, NEC, and NFPA 70E.
• Understanding of thermal management, short-circuit withstand capabilities, protection coordination, and arc-flash mitigation for electrical power equipment.
• Experience with protective relays and control systems, digital monitoring, PLCs, communication networks, and SCADA integration.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple projects and priorities.

Work Environment

This role is based in an office environment with Monday through Friday daytime hours and a flexible start time between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. The setting is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with frequent collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Business casual dress is expected. You work with modern CAD tools and power systems engineering software while supporting the full product lifecycle from design through factory testing and customer delivery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
