Our client is seeking a Mid- to Senior-Level Electrical Designer to join its Omaha engineering office for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This role supports electrical design for power stations and industrial facilities, including oil and gas and petrochemical plants.
Working with project managers, project engineers, and technical services staff, you will develop electrical construction drawings, research project design criteria, and provide field support for retrofit projects and as-built documentation.
Develop complete electrical construction drawing packages using 2D and 3D CAD tools, including AutoCAD, AVEVA E3D, and MicroStation.
Prepare electrical drawings, schematics, sketches, and layouts for grounding, lighting, power distribution, cable tray, duct banks, and one-line and three-line diagrams.
Research project requirements and apply appropriate design criteria based on project scope, vendor data, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and industry standards.
Review manufacturer drawings, other discipline drawings, and existing facility plans to identify physical interferences and coordinate solutions with project engineers and other disciplines.
Check the work of junior designers for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes and design standards.
Guide designers and drafters during assigned project design activities.
Conduct field verification for retrofit applications and prepare as-built documentation.
Develop material specifications, purchase requisitions, and detailed contractor scopes of work.
Provide technical support for client inquiries and field management support as assigned.
Follow established quality assurance procedures throughout the design process.
At least 7 years of experience as an Electrical Designer.
Advanced CAD drafting and design skills, including the ability to develop complete 2D drawing packages and work with and reference 3D models.
Extensive experience with grounding, lighting, power design, cable tray and duct bank layouts, and one-line and three-line diagrams.
Extensive knowledge of the NEC and electrical industry standards.
Proficiency with PC-based computers and general office software.
Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make independent design decisions within project requirements.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
Strong attention to detail and a desire to continue learning.
Vocational or trade school education in drafting, design, or a related field.
High school diploma or associate degree with relevant drafting coursework.
Related hands-on or on-the-job training supporting electrical design work.
