About this Role:

Quanta Power Solutions is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer III to support the design and development of electrical systems for EPC power generation and distribution projects, including gas turbines, renewable energy facilities, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, and transmission infrastructure. This role is responsible for producing high-quality engineering design deliverables and complete construction packages supporting critical energy infrastructure projects. 

 

The ideal candidate will have extensive electrical and instrumentation design experience, strong knowledge of industry standards, and the ability to work independently while coordinating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

What You'll Do:

Engineering Design & Drafting 

  • Interpret project scope, specifications, client requirements, and design criteria. 
  • Develop electrical design deliverables for power generation and industrial projects. 
  • Produce: 
  • MCC single-line diagrams 
  • Electrical room layouts 
  • Motor control elementary diagrams 
  • Connection diagrams 
  • Cable schedules 
  • Grounding plans 
  • Lighting layouts 
  • Power distribution drawings 
  • Installation details 
    • Create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings and technical specifications. 
    • Route conduit and cable tray systems for electrical and instrumentation installations. 
    • Develop detailed construction packages supporting project execution and installation activities. 

Engineering Analysis 

  • Perform calculations for: 
  • Lighting levels 
  • Voltage drop 
  • Conduit fill 
  • Cable tray fill 
  • Wire sizing 
  • Conduit sizing 
  • Overcurrent protection 
    • Determine motor control center (MCC) loading requirements. 
    • Assist with substation loading calculations and power distribution evaluations. 
    • Support electrical equipment selection and system design optimization. 

Project Execution 

  • Coordinate electrical design activities throughout project lifecycle phases. 
  • Collaborate with civil, structural, mechanical, process, instrumentation, and project teams to ensure coordinated designs. 
  • Recognize and communicate scope changes, design issues, and project risks in a timely manner. 
  • Support project scheduling and estimate task durations to meet project milestones. 
  • Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination meetings. 

Construction & Field Support 

  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, startup, and field verification activities. 
  • Assist with responding to contractor requests for information (RFIs). 
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of field installation issues. 
  • Review contractor submittals and vendor documentation as required. 

Estimating & Procurement Support 

  • Support cost estimating efforts and material take-offs. 
  • Assist with procurement documentation and equipment evaluations. 
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding electrical equipment requirements and installation details. 
What You'll Bring:

Education & Experience 

  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, or related technical field. 
  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation drafting and design. 
  • EPC, power generation, utility, or industrial project experience strongly preferred. 

Technical Skills 

  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC). 
  • Proficiency with: 
  • AutoCAD 
  • AutoCAD Plant 3D 
  • Revit 
  • Navisworks 
  • Elecdes 
  • A612/32 
  • DIALux 
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) 
    • Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation materials and construction practices. 
    • Familiarity with power distribution systems, motor control systems, substations, and industrial electrical installations. 
    • Knowledge of company and industry drafting standards and best practices.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills. 
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and multiple office locations.
