Electrical Designer
Contract-to-Hire Opportunity | Albuquerque, NM
Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to join their team in Albuquerque, NM on a Contract-to-Hire basis. The Electrical Designer will support a variety of electrical engineering and design projects, performing planning, site evaluations, design development, calculations, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects and collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other technical professionals to develop high-quality electrical design deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Design a variety of electrical projects, including electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site and facility electrical designs.
- Follow established company, client, and project-specific design and drafting standards.
- Plan and develop drawings for production work, including problem analysis, design layouts, and calculations for non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
- Perform electrical design assignments using established methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequencing and presentation, sizing of system components, and refining rough sketches.
- Execute revisions to designs and sketches, including incorporating redlines and markups into ongoing projects.
- Analyze reports, drawings, test results, and other project information to plan and develop electrical designs.
- Interpret and incorporate applicable design codes, standards, and specifications into project deliverables.
- Review design drawings for quality and accuracy while maintaining project scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
- Complete project tasks and assignments within established budgeted hours and deadlines.
- Perform volume calculations for conduit and grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics.
- Organize and maintain project drawings, revisions, plot files, and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with internal project teams, clients, and other stakeholders regarding project coordination and design requirements.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multidisciplinary project environment to identify and resolve design and drawing issues.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, design standards, and applicable requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of related experience, OR
- Associate degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience, OR
- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 9 years of progressive detailing and electrical design experience.
- Advanced proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software and technology.
- Advanced ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical design principles, calculations, and design systems.
- Advanced knowledge of the theory and practices associated with electrical design.
- Understanding of fundamental concepts of related disciplines as they apply to electrical design.
- Ability to operate discipline-specific design software necessary to execute production tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other team members in a multidisciplinary project environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality design deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GIS applications or workflows.
- Previous experience supporting utility, power distribution, site development, or facility electrical design projects.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
- Familiarity with applicable electrical design codes, standards, and industry practices.
