Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced
Electrical Controls Estimator to develop accurate and competitive quotations for custom UL508A industrial control panels and automation projects.
This position will work closely with customers, engineers, project managers, purchasing, vendors, and production teams to evaluate project specifications, calculate material and labor costs, and support profitable project execution.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with industrial control panels, electrical schematics, UL508A requirements, and panel manufacturing processes.
Duties / Responsibilities- Review customer RFQs, project specifications, drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations for custom UL508A control panels.
- Interpret electrical schematics, one-line drawings, panel layouts, and bills of materials.
- Determine material, labor, engineering, and production costs.
- Coordinate with vendors to obtain current component pricing and lead times.
- Verify component selections and applicable compliance requirements.
- Evaluate project risks and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineering regarding design requirements and manufacturability.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings.
- Assist project managers and production personnel with scope clarification.
- Review change orders and prepare revised cost estimates.
- Track estimate accuracy and project profitability.
- Maintain estimating databases, pricing tools, and supporting documentation.
- Help improve estimating processes and documentation standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and panel layouts.
- Thorough understanding of UL508A control panel construction and requirements.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical components, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, contactors, relays, power supplies, and circuit-protection devices.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to calculate material, labor, engineering, and production costs accurately.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and competing deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, vendors, engineers, project managers, and production personnel.
Education and Experience- At least three years of estimating experience involving industrial control panels.
- Previous experience building or wiring industrial control panels is preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical is preferred.
- Project management experience is preferred.
- Experience within industrial automation or systems integration is preferred.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Omron, or similar automation platforms is preferred.
