Lead Electrical Controls for High-Throughput Automation

Express Employment Professionals in Lynchburg is partnering with a well-established client in the Lynchburg area to hire an Electrical Controls Engineering Manager. In this role, you’ll guide the design and development of electrical systems for industrial automation and material-handling equipment while directing a talented team and shepherding projects from concept to commissioning.

A Day in the Life

You start with a stand-up, aligning electrical, controls, and design priorities across multiple projects. Before lunch, you’re reviewing panel layouts and control drawings, ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA, UL, and OSHA. The afternoon brings a customer design review and a handoff with manufacturing and installation teams. You finish the day supporting commissioning on a new conveyor line—troubleshooting PLC logic, fine-tuning VFD parameters, and validating HMI screens for a smooth startup.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and mentor electrical engineers, controls engineers, and designers across concurrent initiatives.
  • Own electrical design for industrial automation and material-handling systems, including conveyors and warehouse automation.
  • Review and approve schematics, panel layouts, control drawings, and power distribution documents.
  • Ensure designs meet safety codes, project specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, manufacturing, project management, installation, and startup teams.
  • Provide hands-on technical support during system integration, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Allocate engineering resources and manage priorities across multiple projects.
  • Participate in customer meetings and recommend improvements that boost reliability and performance.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 7–10+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • 3–5+ years in engineering leadership or management preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor controls, and industrial automation.
  • Experience creating and reviewing electrical schematics, control drawings, panel layouts, and power distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, UL, OSHA, and applicable electrical safety standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
  • Strong leadership, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Background with conveyor systems, material handling, manufacturing, or warehouse automation preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required.

Compensation & Schedule

$120,000 to $160,000 annually, based on experience.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
