Title: Electric Distribution Designer
Location: Amery, WI
Contract Duration: 8-Months
Hourly Pay Rate: $30.33
We are seeking an Electric Distribution Designer / Project Coordinator to support electric distribution projects for new and existing customers. This role combines customer interaction, project coordination, field assessments, and electric distribution system design.
The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, comfortable working with customers, and interested in developing their knowledge of electric utility systems. Experience in electrical, utility, construction, GIS, or a related field is helpful but not required.
This is a hands-on role with a mix of office, remote, and field work. You will work closely with Operations, Distribution Engineers, and other designers to develop solutions that meet customer needs while supporting a safe, reliable electric distribution system.
Responsibilities:
- Design and coordinate electric distribution projects for new and existing residential and commercial customers.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review new customer requests and project information and coordinate appropriate next steps.
- Conduct field assessments at residential, commercial, and construction sites.
- Develop distribution system designs using GE Smallworld, a customized GIS platform.
- Perform basic electrical design activities, including transformer sizing, underground cable routing, and pole placement.
- Coordinate multiple customer projects and adjust priorities as customer needs or urgent business requirements change.
- Collaborate with Operations, Distribution Engineers, Service Designers, Gas Designers, and other internal teams.
- Translate technical and industry-specific information into clear, easy-to-understand explanations for customers.
- Maintain accurate project information and documentation.
- Participate in team scheduling meetings, project touchpoints, and ongoing training.
- Follow established utility safety procedures and requirements during field activities.
What a Typical Day Looks LikeNo two days are exactly alike. Your day may include:
- Reviewing SAP for new customer contacts and project requests.
- Responding to customer questions and coordinating project requirements.
- Visiting a customer or construction site to assess existing conditions.
- Completing computer-based design work in the office or remotely.
- Working with teammates to resolve project questions or design challenges.
- Participating in weekly scheduling and team meetings.
- Adjusting priorities to accommodate customer needs, high-priority projects, or urgent matters.
- This position is well suited for someone who enjoys variety and can remain organized and flexible when priorities change.
Required Qualifications- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Basic knowledge of electrical concepts or a willingness to learn.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to explain technical or industry-specific information to customers in clear, straightforward language.

Preferred QualificationsThe following experience is helpful but not required:
- Experience in electric utilities, electrical work, construction, or a related field.
- Experience with GIS or AutoCAD.
- Experience coordinating multiple customer projects simultaneously.
- Experience working with customers in high-stress or high-demand situations.
- Experience conducting field assessments or working at construction sites.
Education & CertificationsNo specific degree or certification is required. We welcome candidates from a variety of professional backgrounds who have strong communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
Relevant backgrounds may include utilities, construction, customer service/call centers, electrical work, field operations, or other customer-facing environments.
Work Schedule & LocationThis is a
full-time hybrid position.
- Tuesday–Thursday: In-office
- Monday & Friday: Remote, if preferred
- Employees may work in the office up to five days per week.
- A minimum of three days per week in the office is required.
- Approximately 30% field work, which may vary depending on the season and business needs.
- Local travel is required for field visits.
- Occasional long-distance travel may be required and is subject to prior approval.
- Overtime is not generally expected.

Employees use their personal vehicle for local field work and receive mileage reimbursement. Pool/design vehicles may be available with manager approval. There are no additional parking fees for employees using the office.
