Primary Purpose:

To provide Emergent Bilingual (EB) students with comprehensive instruction that targets English language acquisition, mastery of essential knowledge and skills, and addresses their affective, linguistic, and cognitive needs. Ensure content accessibility based on students'' English proficiency levels while adhering to district and government policies and laws.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • Texas Teacher Certification
  • English Language Arts / Reading certification
  • ESL certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide instructional leadership.
  • Working knowledge of the school policies, rules, regulations and laws regarding the ESL program.
  • Ability to interpret data.
  • Strong communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years successful teaching experience as a bilingual or ESL teacher.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Compliance:

  • Compile and maintain records for Emergent Bilingual (EB) and Monitored students, including achievement, instruction, and compliance decisions, ensuring adherence to district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee appropriate testing for EB students, including coordination, training, and administration of district and state assessments.
  • Support the creation of sheltered courses within the master schedule with the Support Services Department.
  • Ensure the LPAC committee functions properly, with all members trained and compliance deadlines met.
  • Monitor EB student progress, determine readiness for exiting the ESL program, and continue monitoring for four years post-exit.
  • Maintain communication with parents of EB and Monitored students regarding student progress and compliance updates.
  • Collaborate with teachers to address cognitive, affective, and linguistic needs, and ensure compliance with all related legislation.

Instructional:

  • Assist educators in developing and implementing lessons aligned with district and state curriculum, ensuring they address the linguistic needs of EB students.
  • Provide instruction that addresses the affective, linguistic, and cognitive needs of Emergent Bilingual students, with a focus on secondary recent immigrant students with beginner to intermediate language proficiency.
  • Strategically engage in oral language development to help secondary students better access to core subject-area content.
  • Design and implement lessons that offer instructional opportunities for recent immigrant students, supporting their English language acquisition and content understanding.
  • Model, co-teach, or support lessons that reflect EB students'' proficiency levels, using effective EB teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with educators, including those involved in Sp. Ed. and Section 504, to align instructional goals and methods for EB students.
  • Analyze student data to design instruction tailored to students' English proficiency levels, using technology and assessments to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Keep informed and comply with all state, district, and school policies and regulations for classroom teachers.
  • Display dependability and punctuality in all assigned duties.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
