Summary

As the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) Manager at James Hardie, you will partner with the Prattville, AL plant leadership team to strengthen a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational security. You will lead site EHSS strategy and execution by developing short- and long-term improvement plans; coaching leaders; and ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, and company requirements.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the site EHSS leader for Prattville, AL-setting direction, coaching leaders, and driving continuous improvement in safety, environmental performance, and physical security.
  • Analyze leading and lagging indicators (inspections, observations, audits, pre-task assessments, near misses, and incidents) to identify trends and prioritize corrective actions.
  • Coach department managers and supervisors on daily EHSS execution (tier meetings, field engagement, hazard identification, and follow-through) to improve ownership and accountability.
  • Lead incident reporting and investigation processes (root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions), ensuring learning is captured and sustained across the site.
  • Own site risk management systems, including hazard reporting, near-hit reporting, and non-routine task risk assessments; verify closure quality and effectiveness.
  • Plan and execute behavioral safety and compliance audits; calibrate audit quality and coach teams when expectations are not met.
  • Develop site communications (pre-shift topics, alerts, and learning shares) to reinforce critical controls and prevent repeat events across sister facilities.
  • Lead site audit cadence (housekeeping, risk assessments, regulatory, and corporate audits) and drive timely corrective action completion.
  • Manage training and competency programs, including new-hire orientation and required refresher training (OSHA, company programs, and site-specific hazards).
  • Administer the site environmental compliance program (air, water, waste, and chemical management as applicable), including permitting support, inspections, recordkeeping, and agency interface.
  • Lead site security and emergency preparedness, including contractor/visitor controls, incident response coordination, security vendor oversight (as applicable), and alignment to corporate security standards.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental science/engineering, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of manufacturing experience as an EHS/EHSS professional with demonstrated success leading site-level programs and driving measurable performance improvement.
  • 3+ years of experience leading, mentoring, and coaching leaders and front-line teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Professional certifications (preferred): CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP, or equivalent; security/loss prevention credentials or experience (e.g., CPP) a plus.
  • Working knowledge of physical security controls and emergency management (access control, incident response, contractor/visitor processes) and ability to partner effectively with corporate security and local responders.

What You'll Receive:

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $110k-140k. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and internal equity and may change over time. This position qualifies for benefits and you will be eligible to participate in a bonus plan.
