Position Summary

Develop and implement educational and recreational activities at assigned Playground Recreation Program sites; ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children and provide responsible support to higher level staff.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

This is an unclassified, at-will position designated as part-time and temporary, with a maximum term of two (2) years from the date of hire. Employment will automatically conclude two (2) years from the date of hire in accordance with City policy.

Essential and Supplemental Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Participate in the planning and provisions of appropriate educational activities to develop the social, emotional and cognitive abilities of young children; work with children to improve all developmental skills.
  • Assist in assessing the progress and needs of children; confer with appropriate staff any educational concerns.
  • Assist in the arrangement of indoor and outdoor environments to facilitate developmental learning.
  • Provide a safe and healthy learning environment both indoors and outdoors; assist in ordering and maintaining material for educational activities.
  • Provide assistance and information for program participants.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform Recreation Leader duties as necessary and/or assigned.
  • Perform other job related duties as necessary and/or assigned.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

High school diploma or GED and supplemented by forty-eight (48) credit hours from an accredited college or university to include fifteen (15) non-remedial hours in Math and English.

Possession of a valid New Mexico Drivers License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operators Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Working Conditions

Environmental:

Classroom and outdoor environments; exposure to communicable diseases and noise.

Physical:

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for waling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate or light lifting.
