We are looking for 3 new members to join the Rio Community School District. Each position has a different focus in addition to the general job description duties.   1. Elementary- Focus on student academic interventions along with recess supervision

  2. Elementary- Focus on food service along with students with special needs.

  3. Middle/High School- Focus on students with special needs.

Position Summary

The educational assistant is responsible for providing assistance to instructional programs by assisting the teacher in achieving educational and behavioral objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. The educational assistant assists in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning learning environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Have a high school diploma

  • Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs and required (positioning, lifting, transferring, etc.)

  • Meet the requirements for the DPI Special Education Teacher Aide License

Essential Functions

  • Execute instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following teacher direction and demonstration

  • Provide assistance to students during special classes (art, music, etc.)

  • Assist students in special education and general education classes

  • Assist in preparation of materials for class, classroom activities, assignments, location of supplementary materials

  • Assist with student use of equipment and the access of instructional materials.

  • Assist in the implementation of behavior management programs

  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for the students and monitor their progress

  • Monitor student use of instructional equipment

  • Provide general maintenance of equipment including cleaning and disinfecting

  • Serve as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher

  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of the classroom teachers

  • Accompany students to and from the classroom

  • Assist with the supervision of students

  • Assist students with activities of daily living such as eating, grooming, and hygiene related to toileting

  • Assist, monitor, and guide students to pay attention, participate in activities, and complete tasks

  • Observe and intervene to redirect inappropriate behavior

  • Assist with the preparation, serving, and clean-up of student meals, lunches, and snacks, including washing and sanitizing all dishes and utensils.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Perform additional duties and/or assignments that the Superintendent or building principals deem necessary
