Reporting to the Director of Zoological Operations, the Education Supervisor supports the daily operations of the Aquarium of Niagara's Education Department. This position leads educational programming and department projects, including program development and delivery, employee training and scheduling, guest service, registration and recordkeeping, and adherence to safety procedures. The Education Supervisor also coordinates staff coverage and serves as a primary contact for program participants and the public.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide daily oversight of Education Department operations, programs, staff coverage, and guest service.

Coordinate schedules and assign employees, interns, volunteers, and docents to educational programs, events, and departmental activities.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Train, mentor, and support Education staff, interns, volunteers, and docents; monitor program delivery and provide feedback to promote consistency and quality.

Lead the development, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of educational programs, workshops, activities, and interpretive materials.
\t\t\t\t\t\t

Serve as a lead instructor and provide educational interpretation related to animals, exhibits, conservation, environmental issues, and animal care.

Recommend new programs, content, resources, and departmental improvements to the Director of Zoological Operations.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Serve as a primary contact for program information, registration, participant correspondence, cancellations, invoicing, and recordkeeping.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Support positive guest experiences by welcoming groups, addressing participant needs, assisting with crowd management, and ensuring appropriate supervision during programs and public activities.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Promote compliance with Aquarium policies, established safety procedures, and program-specific protocols.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Coordinate departmental projects, special events, community partnerships, and contributions to exhibits and interpretive displays.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Maintain educational supplies, animal artifacts, activity sets, and interpretive materials, and recommend future purchases or replacements.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Assist with tracking program participation, guest feedback, departmental needs, and other information used to evaluate program effectiveness.

Perform other related duties as assigned by Aquarium leadership.

Bachelor's degree in education or natural sciences.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years of experience as an informal science or environmental educator in a zoo or aquarium setting.
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Excellent communication skills (verbal and in writing)
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Excellent customer service skills; able to represent the Aquarium of Niagara at all levels with professionalism and pride
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Ability to work both independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Previous experience working with children
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Valid driver's license and a driver in good standing
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Preferred: previous experience handling and presenting live animals
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Preferred: holds a certification from an interpretive or environmental education organization
\t\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t\t * \t\t\t\t\t\t
Preferred: knowledge of current teaching trends in the environmental education field
