DUTY 1: Provides individual career, academic, and force development advisement to military personnel of all ranks, their dependents, and/or civilian personnel pursuing undergraduate/graduate, vocational, technical, licensure/certification, and professional development opportunities at various levels.
DUTY 2: Serves as technical expert on a variety of educational programs. Evaluates individuals potential and eligibility for a multitude of programs to include Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), Air Force commissioning, and Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Services (DANTES).
DUTY 3: Performs a variety of outreach and customer services duties. Prepares and conducts briefings for groups or units to promote educational programs. Provides program specific small group advisement. Writes, edits, and distributes base brochures.
DUTY 4: Performs a variety of duties involving reports, testing, and special projects. Maintains program information and prepares a variety of educational reports. Establishes and maintains suspense dates in order to submit required documentation/information for the various programs and accomplish follow-ups as appropriate.

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, 1740.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours appropriate to the position to be filled in one or a combination of the areas described below. At least one course must have been from (1) or (2) below. For guidance counselor positions, a college or university-sponsored practicum in counseling is also required.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Applicants who meet the basic requirements described in the individual occupational requirements are fully qualified for the specified entry grade (generally grade GS-5).
EDUCATION: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements generally as stated in paragraph A in the individual occupational requirements.

COMBINATION: Appropriate combination of education and experience that is typically specified in paragraph B of the individual occupational requirements. The "paragraph B" method generally requires that an applicant possess a core of educational credit, such as described in paragraph A above, plus additional education and/or experience. The method of determining the number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the same as described in paragraph A.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of education theories, principles, procedures, and practices of secondary, adult, or continuing education programs and their accrediting processes. (See positive education requirement per OPM Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.)
Knowledge of a variety of academic, occupational, vocational, and career development resources (educational and/or community).
Ability to interpret agencies directives, instructions, and guidance and make local decisions and recommendations based on analysis.
Ability to gather, develop, and analyze a variety of data and to make recommendations based on analysis.
Skill in conducting interviews and delivery of formal and informal presentations and briefings.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to meet and deal with customers using a high degree of tact and diplomacy.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
