Education Department Assistant''

POSITION SUMMARY

The Education Department Assistant is responsible for assisting the Education Department Director in the design, direction, planning, development, maintenance, and evaluation of the Education Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists the Education Department Director with:

• Administering education programs for the Tribal Membership.
• Managing the Higher Education Program.
• Managing the After School Program.
• Managing the Tutoring Program.
• Providing Guidance to Youth Council.
• Planning Youth Field Trips.
• Planning the High School Graduation Trip.
• Distributing the Good Grade Incentive.
• Distributing the School Supply Supplement.
• Distributing the Student Clothing Supplement.
• Conducting Trainings Specific to Tribal Members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Must possess and demonstrate poise, tact, and diplomacy.
• Must possess the ability to resolve complaints.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license.
• Must pass a drug screen and background check.

NATIVE PREFERENCE

Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
