    Description

AWS Blogs is one of the most widely read technology publications in cloud computing, reaching millions of developers, architects, and technology leaders. It spans more than 50 channels covering AI, cloud infrastructure, security, databases, and more. We are transforming AWS Blogs into a newsroom-model publication that prioritizes editorial quality, expert perspectives, and reader trust over publishing volume.

We are looking for an Editor-in-Chief to lead this transformation. This person is equal parts editorial craftsperson and technology enthusiast. You follow the technology landscape closely, form strong opinions about where it is heading, and translate that judgment into editorial decisions about what to publish, when, and for whom. You think like a journalist, edit with precision, and understand how editorial rigor builds audience trust and business impact.

In this role, you will set the publication"s editorial strategy, define quality standards, and select the stories that appear on our front page. Equally important, you will determine what does not fit with the publication's editorial direction. You will commission, write, and edit stories alongside subject-matter experts, preserving each author"s voice while raising every piece to a consistent bar. You will assign and manage a team of desk editors and topic owners.

This role sits in AWS Marketing and partners with product teams, developer relations, field marketing, and communications.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Define the editorial charter, voice, and quality bar for AWS Blogs.
    • Stay current on AI, cloud, developer tools, and software architecture. Surface the topics and technical developments that will matter to practitioners before they become obvious.
    • Commission, assign, and edit content, from light copy edits to full rewrites. Hold every post to a standard of one practitioner speaking to another.
    • Write original articles and executive bylines grounded in customer stories, data, and real-world impact.
    • Own the editorial calendar and manage two publishing paths: a hands-on desk-led path for top stories and a self-serve path for scaled submissions.
    • Coordinate the v-team of desk editors and topic owners across AWS. Provide editorial direction and build a culture of quality without direct reporting authority.
    • Partner with PR, communications, and marketing teams to shape announcement narratives into clear, story-forward content.
    • Drive content discoverability through SEO, AI-engine optimization, and structured content for answer-engine citation.
    • Track performance metrics and use data to inform editorial decisions and raise the quality bar.
    • Identify new formats, channels, and distribution strategies to extend reach and keep the publication relevant to how practitioners discover content.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
