The EDI Technical Analyst develops technical documentation and designs, analyzes, tests, and supports applications and data structures used for electronic data interchange (EDI) and flat file processing. This role provides end-user support and training, performs post-implementation reviews, and supports systems and reporting for internal customers and management across multiple responsibility levels, from entry-level to lead.

Responsibilities
  • Track, research, analyze, and resolve production processing problems of varying complexity, coordinating with appropriate teams.
  • Develop business objectives, processing requirements, and technical specifications for EDI-related processes and integrations.
  • Analyze files and map data between systems to support EDI and flat file transactions.
  • Support production cycles, resolve production incidents, and provide timely notification of problems.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries for production support, testing, and reporting.
  • Query logging and monitoring tools (such as Splunk or similar) to investigate issues.
  • Develop test data, create and process test files, and analyze test results.
  • Use standard API testing tools (e.G., SOAP UI, Postman) to validate integrations.
  • Execute test cases, document results, log defects, perform regression testing, and support defect triage and root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and maintain traceability between business requirements and test execution.
  • Assist with technical and data-focused research required to produce and test trading partner files.
  • Apply industry rules and guidelines (e.G., TR3, CAQH core rules) to EDI transactions.
  • Learn and document business and system data flows and their impact on upstream and downstream processes.
  • Research and analyze application and procedural problems, recommending improvements.
  • Develop functional and technical specifications, logic flows, mapping documents, and other relevant documentation.
  • Review system capabilities, workflows, and scheduling constraints to determine feasibility of new or changed applications.
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions using relevant technologies (e.G., SQL, C#/VB.NET, ETL, SOA, OLAP).
  • Participate in maintaining operational and disaster recovery procedures and related internal operational documentation.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to develop and implement production monitoring, dashboards, and alerts for APIs, data loads, trading partner transactions, and related processes.
  • Build, support, and maintain processes, programs, and data integrations of increasing complexity across responsibility levels.
  • Create ad hoc and recurring reports, including complex reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop project plans, time estimates, and schedules based on priorities and business requirements.
  • Participate in or lead projects ranging from small to complex, including technical discovery and solution design.
  • Create dashboards that monitor transactions and performance indicators to assess the health of EDI processes.
  • Facilitate and create new procedures and processes to support advancing technologies and capabilities.
  • Evaluate high-level project information to estimate and forecast required work effort.
  • Provide peer review, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced analysts.
  • Act as subject matter expert in assigned areas such as production reporting, application architecture, or training.
  • Serve as an operational contact for internal and external customers when needed or in the absence of a manager.
  • Ensure agreed service levels are met and escalate issues that impact departmental performance.
  • Support corporate quality, data governance, and compliance initiatives.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • College-level coursework in system requirements design, interpretation, or production system support (entry level).
  • Professional experience in computer technology or information systems, increasing with responsibility level.
  • Experience in data analysis, data management, data integration, and reporting.
  • Experience working with EDI transactions and trading partner integrations.
  • Intermediate proficiency with PCs and standard office software (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, flowcharting).
  • Intermediate knowledge of data mapping techniques, data analysis tools, and computer operating systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including server and database environments such as Microsoft SQL.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make independent, effective decisions.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work with multiple priorities under time constraints.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for interaction with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Experience with systems research, analysis, and documentation, including business intelligence documentation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, follow data governance best practices, and support data quality improvement.
  • Ability to facilitate and resolve customer requests and inquiries across management levels (for higher levels).
  • Experience providing mentoring and peer review for junior team members (for senior and lead levels).
  • Previous experience with QNXT.

Summary Qualification
  • Background in information technology, information systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with EDI transactions, data mapping, and trading partner integrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to support production environments, including monitoring, incident resolution, and root cause analysis.
  • Proven skills in SQL and working with relational databases to support analysis, testing, and reporting.
  • Experience participating in or leading projects, with the ability to manage tasks, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Strong documentation abilities for technical specifications, process flows, and test artifacts.
  • Exposure to healthcare-related systems, transactions, or standards is highly beneficial.

Skill
  • SQL development and query optimization for support, testing, and reporting.
  • EDI transaction understanding, including common healthcare transaction sets (e.G., eligibility, claims, remittance).
  • Data mapping, data analysis, and integration techniques across multiple systems.
  • Use of API testing tools (such as SOAP UI or Postman) and basic API troubleshooting.
  • Use of logging and monitoring tools (such as Splunk or similar) for incident investigation.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and documentation tools.
  • Knowledge of decision support, business intelligence concepts, and reporting practices.
  • Ability to document and communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Project coordination and time management skills in a multi-tasking environment.
