Description
This is a highly specialized mechanical engineering position focused on designing Environmental Control Units (ECUs), which are essentially rugged HVAC and cooling systems used to keep military shelters, command centers, and deployable operations facilities functioning in extreme environments.
The engineer will own the thermal and HVAC system design from concept through deployment. Rather than working on building HVAC systems, they'll be designing mission-critical cooling and environmental systems for military applications. The work combines mechanical design, thermodynamics, refrigeration engineering, and product development.
Job Responsibilities
- Designing HVAC and refrigeration systems for deployable military shelters
- Selecting and sizing compressors, heat exchangers, coils, fans, and refrigerant components
- Running thermal calculations and engineering analyses
- Creating CAD models and engineering drawings
- Supporting prototype development and testing
- Troubleshooting thermal performance issues
- Reviewing system performance in extreme environmental conditions
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
- NX. Reporting directly to Andrew (senior manager of Mechanical Engineer)
- Strong HVAC, refrigeration, or Environmental Control Unit (ECU) design background
- Experience designing vapor-compression systems (compressors, heat exchangers, refrigerant circuits, coils, fans)
- Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
- Ability to apply engineering first principles to solve problems
- Experience working with suppliers/vendors on hardware design
- CAD experience and ability to create engineering drawings
- Mechanical Engineering degree (BS/MS/PhD)
- Must be a U.S. Person
- Able and willing to work onsite in Costa Mesa
