    ECU Design Engineer – Automotive Electronics

    Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan

    Pay: $40–$42 per hour

    Employment Type: Contract

    Work Location: Onsite

    Schedule: Must be available to work up to 30% overtime

    Position Summary

    Reliance One is seeking an experienced ECU Design Engineer for an onsite contract opportunity in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This position will support the design and vehicle application of functional electronic control units, automotive electrical systems, and smart security technology.


    The ECU Design Engineer will plan, design, and develop vehicle electronic systems while balancing performance, customer needs, cost, packaging requirements, styling feasibility, and regulatory compliance. This individual will also create technical specifications, manage supplier activities, and maintain engineering design documentation.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Support the vehicle application of functional ECUs, including:
    • Power sliding-door ECUs
    • Power tailgate ECUs
    • Seat ECUs
    • Window ECUs
    • Sunroof ECUs
    • Other body electronics and control modules
    • Support smart security systems, including smart ECUs, immobilizer systems, antennas, and related components
    • Plan the structure and design of functional ECU and smart security systems
    • Establish performance and design targets based on customer needs, cost, and regulatory requirements
    • Evaluate component packaging and styling feasibility
    • Create and issue design specifications to automotive suppliers
    • Manage supplier schedules, performance, deliverables, and quality
    • Maintain vehicle part lists and related engineering records
    • Create internal design documents, engineering change instructions, and wiring specifications
    • Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams
    • Identify technical issues and develop effective solutions


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline
    • At least five years of experience as an electrical design engineer
    • Strong engineering problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams
    • Ability and willingness to work up to 30% overtime
    • Ability to work onsite in Ann Arbor, Michigan


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with vehicle electronics development
    • Experience designing or applying automotive electronic control units
    • Knowledge of automotive body electronics, wiring systems, or vehicle security systems
    • Experience developing engineering specifications and change instructions
    • Experience managing automotive suppliers
    • CATIA experience

This individual is organized, technically curious, and comfortable managing designs from initial target-setting through supplier development and vehicle application.
