    Job Summary

    The Early Literacy Tutor or Teacher provides supplemental literacy instruction to K–3 students who require additional support in reading. The role delivers small-group instruction focused on foundational literacy skills, develops lesson plans, monitors student progress, collaborates with classroom teachers and reading specialists, and supports student achievement through evidence-based literacy practices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide supplemental literacy instruction to K–3 students in small groups.
    • Teach foundational reading and early literacy skills.
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials using district-provided resources.
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers and reading specialists to support student learning.
    • Participate in professional development focused on literacy instruction and best practices.
    • Monitor, assess, and document student academic progress.
    • Maintain accurate instructional and student records.
    • Communicate student progress and instructional feedback to teachers and reading specialists.
    • Follow the instructional schedule established by school personnel.
    • Maintain a safe and productive classroom learning environment.

    Requirements:

    • High school diploma required.
    • Must meet Virginia Department of Education certification requirements, including:
      • Title IX Training
      • Mandated Reporting Training
      • Suicide Prevention Training
    • Active Virginia Teaching License preferred for Teacher-level position.
    • Strong knowledge of early literacy instruction and foundational reading skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and reading specialists.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and recordkeeping skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with elementary-aged students.
