Early Learning Center Lead Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Early Learning Lead Teacher at the YMCA of Greenwich is dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. This role involves planning and implementing engaging lessons in literacy, arts, math, science, and recreation, while fostering creativity and curiosity. The Lead Teacher collaborates with the Head Teacher to ensure alignment with state and developmental standards. Responsibilities include conducting observations and assessments to track children's progress, building strong relationships with families, and supervising Assistant Teachers and volunteers. The Lead Teacher ensures compliance with YMCA and regulatory guidelines and maintains accurate program documentation. REPORTS TO:

Director of Education Programs / Head Teacher

PAY RANGE:

$22/hour – $26/hour (based on experience and certification)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children through close supervision.
• Implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities across various subjects.
• Guide and support students in their academic growth.
• Actively engage with parents and families through various communication methods.
• Collaborate as a supportive team member within the Early Childhood Learning Center.
• Maintain a clean, safe classroom environment and report potential hazards.
• Prepare food and create a family-style eating environment that fosters development.
• Maintain accurate program documentation, including reports and attendance.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA, Department of Health, and OEC guidelines.
• Participate in meetings, training sessions, and special events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or a Child Development Associate Credential.
• Experience working with preschool-aged children.
• Strong knowledge of childhood development principles.
• Familiarity with early literacy, physical education, and math concepts.
• Ability to create engaging, play-based lesson plans.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with young children.
• Must pass BCIS/OEC medical examination and meet other OEC requirements.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Use a computer for extended periods.
• Remain active throughout the workday (walking, engaging with children).
• Move around the classroom to assist and supervise children.
• Lift young children and objects up to 50 lbs.
• Demonstrate emotion regulation and remain calm in stressful situations.
• Adapt to varying noise levels in the work environment.
