Long Term Subsitute Teacher Position: At Pine River School for Young Learners our mission is to engage, educate, enrich, and empower all young children and their families. We value playing and interacting with the real world. Three programs are integrated into one as we are a Head Start, Early Childhood and 4K serving students of all abilities. We operate on the same calendar as the Merrill Area Public School District, with children attending either a full day or morning or afternoon session four days a week. One day a week, staff conducts home visits or family activities to include families in their children's learning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
- In addition to and including essential duties performed by a teacher.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests, and abilities of students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals and state standards.
- Assesses the academic work and social progress of students on a regular basis, providing progress reports and report card grades as required, and communicating with parents when necessary.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by district policy and law.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Develops a code of conduct for the classroom, which is consistent with established policies and develops rules of classroom behavior, which are enforced in a fair and just manner.
- Plans assignments for and works collaboratively with teacher aides, parent volunteers, and student teachers (when applicable).
- Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among the staff.
- Plans meaningful classroom activities for a substitute in case of absence.
- Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth that aligns with personal expectations, district goals, and state licensure requirements.
- Assists the district in development of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices, which promote student learning.
- Assist in developing and collaborate in implementing student behavior plans, academic goals, and IEP's.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Teachers supervise students in their assigned class and/or supervisory area. Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently sit on the floor, crawl, stoop, kneel, and bend to interact with students at their eye level.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move students or equipment weighing up to 35-50 pounds.
- Physical stamina to move quickly (sprint/run) to ensure student safety or to intercept a student eloping from a designated area.
- Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the workday (60-90%) in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- High level of visual and auditory acuity to supervise multiple active children simultaneously and respond to sounds of distress.
- Physical capacity to assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, diapering, and dressing (if applicable to the specific EC/ECSE program).
- Ability to work in high-decibel environments and supervise outdoor activities in various Wisconsin weather conditions.

- A bachelors or masters degree.
- Licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in assigned subjects and/or levels of instruction or ability to obtain a license.
- Proficiency in the subject area being taught.
- Must have a strong technology background.
- Ability to pass an extensive background check, including fingerprint check
- Complete an employment physical including a TB skin test
- CPR and first aid training (or willingness to be trained in)
- Shaken baby prevention training (or willingness to be trained in)
- MAPS utilizes the CESA 6 / Stronge Model for Educator Effectiveness.
- The preferred candidate will have experience with various Google platforms (docs, sheets, drive, etc)
