    Primary Purpose:

    The Program Support Assistant assists the Head Start Director in providing services to children and their families

    Qualifications:

    This campus is a Title 1 campus and person hired must be "Highly Qualified" under the "No Child Left Behind" federal mandate. To meet this requirement you must have at least 48 college hours, or you must attend a Paraprofessional Academy through Abilene ISD

    High School Diploma or GED

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Assist office personnel in clerical duties. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in record keeping of staff and student absences.
    • Check Aesop each morning to determine staff absences and whether or not substitutes are needed. Obtain substitutes.
    • Answer phone and take messages when needed.
    • Assist and receive visitors.
    • Assist in transferring student records.
    • Assist Disabilities Coordinating in classrooms during ARD meetings.
    • Assist the Coordination Staff with duties as needed including working in classrooms, working with children, maintaining files, clerical duties, helping with special events etc.
    • Interact with the children modeling soft voice, positive attitude, patience, neatness, and enthusiasm.
    • Assist other staff members in providing an atmosphere of warmth, acceptance, and friendliness in which each child can feel self-worth, acceptance, achievement, and affection.
    • Attend professional growth training and workshops.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director/ Principal.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: None

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; imaging equipment

    Posture: Frequent walking, standing, bending/stooping, and reaching. Occasional pushing/pulling and twisting

    Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

    Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds)

    Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours

    Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

    Wage/Hour Status: Non - Exempt

    Pay Grade: Clerical Paraprofessional 2
