Preferred Requirements
Explain what the scope of the work/project is? Project Overview, deliverables (what is this person responsible for):
The E&C Engineer - Electrical will support one of four Energy Supply plant locations (Wilmarth Plant, French Island Plant, Bayfront Plant, or Red Wing Plant). Each site currently has a mechanical engineer but lacks dedicated electrical engineering support. The engineer will be responsible for electrical reliability initiatives, troubleshooting plant electrical systems, and managing electrical capital and maintenance projects. Upcoming work includes upgrades and replacement of switchgear, transformers, medium- and high-voltage equipment, and other electrical infrastructure. The engineers will develop, scope, budget, bid, execute, oversee, and close out projects while supporting plant reliability and operational improvements.
What does a typical day look like?:
The day begins with a 7:00 AM plant status meeting to review plant performance, issues, and daily priorities. Following the meeting, the engineer will manage active projects, support troubleshooting and reliability concerns, assist with equipment issues, coordinate with operations and maintenance personnel, and work with contractors and engineering resources as needed. The role is approximately 70% project management and 30% plant reliability engineering.
Can you elaborate on the work environment / team culture (supportive/collaborative, teamwork or individual contributor)?:
The environment is highly collaborative and team oriented. These are relatively small, close-knit plant teams where employees work closely together. Candidates should be comfortable engaging with others, asking questions, collaborating across functions, and fitting into a less corporate, family-like culture.
Can you elaborate on any potential risks or safety considerations associated with this role, particularly if the responsibilities extend beyond a standard desk or office environment?*:
This is a plant-based role supporting power generation facilities, including three refuse-derived fuel (RDF) plants that burn garbage and one biomass plant that burns wood chips. Candidates must be comfortable working in industrial plant environments, including areas that may have odors associated with waste-to-energy operations. Responsibilities include supporting medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, equipment troubleshooting, and plant reliability initiatives while adhering to plant safety standards and procedures.
What are the work hours/shift (standard, evening, full time/part time, OT required, on call for 24/7 operation)? *:
Full-time, onsite position. Expected schedule is approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with attendance at the daily 7:00 AM plant meeting.
What are the top 3-5 skills and qualifications (technology/application/software, etc.) required?:
What non-technical skills are necessary (i.e., such as communication, problem solving, team player)?:
Ideal candidate background and how many years required?:
Prefers candidates with at least 2-3 years of relevant industry experience, though strong entry-level candidates or recent graduates with the right attitude and aptitude may also be considered. Candidates from utility, power generation, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments are preferred.
Are there any certifications/education that the candidate must possess?:
Are there any preferred or "nice to have" skills?:
What is the location of the contract assignment (Full time onsite, hybrid - percent of time on site/home or, are you open to fully remote)? If the resource is expected to be onsite, can you confirm if the resource can park on property/in the ramp?:
If per diem, is there a set amount of PD available?:
The manager indicated willingness to discuss per diem or a daily expense allowance to support relocation or mobilization for strong non-local candidates.
