PRIMARY PURPOSE The dyslexia specialist will assist the coordinator in the overall improvement of the district dyslexia program by coaching and mentoring dyslexia interventionists and specialists, developing and supporting the instructional program and delivery of services, and ensuring full compliance of local, state and federal mandates.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification Bachelor's Degree Valid Texas Teaching Certificate Certified Academic Language Therapist or Licensed Dyslexia Therapist preferred Special Education Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of dyslexia and related disorders Knowledge of dyslexia therapy programs and best practices for remediation of reading difficulties/disabilities Knowledge of local, state and federal guidelines and mandates for dyslexia and related disorders Experience administering and interpreting assessments used for dyslexia evaluation Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within a complex and compliance driven service department
Minimum Experience Three (3) years of successful classroom experience Three (3) years of experience as a dyslexia interventionist/specialist/therapist

WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively verbal and written. Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Safety Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to the supervisor and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
