    The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Housekeeping Department at the Dutch Wonderland Inn. This position provides direct leadership, coaching, and support to the housekeeping team while ensuring guestrooms and public areas are clean, safe, well-maintained, and prepared to meet brand and company standards.


    The Housekeeping Manager works closely with the Director of Lodging and other lodging leaders to ensure efficient department operations, appropriate staffing, productivity, quality standards, and an exceptional guest experience. This position is a hands-on leader who is expected to be visible and engaged with the housekeeping team and willing to perform housekeeping duties when operationally necessary.

      Leadership & Supervisory Duties

      • Oversee the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to established standards.
      • Provide consistent leadership, coaching, direction, and support to housekeeping team members.
      • Act as an approachable mentor and coach while establishing clear expectations and holding team members accountable for performance.
      • Participate in the hiring, selection, onboarding, orientation, training, performance coaching, recognition, and discipline of assigned team members.
      • Ensure team members are properly trained on housekeeping procedures, safety practices, equipment, chemicals, guest service expectations, and brand standards.
      • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
      • Ensure all required meal and other breaks are provided in accordance with Pennsylvania law.
      • Assist with staffing plans and daily deployment of team members based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, room assignments, and business needs.
      • Assist with scheduling and timekeeping activities and ensure accurate timekeeping practices within the department.
      • Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity, and overall performance and address concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
      • Foster a positive, respectful, and productive team environment.
      • Lead by example in guest service, safety, cleanliness, professionalism, and accountability.

      Department Operations

      • Oversee the daily assignment and completion of guestrooms and housekeeping tasks based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, staffing levels, and established productivity standards.
      • Monitor housekeeping productivity and labor needs and communicate staffing concerns or opportunities to the Director of Lodging.
      • Conduct routine inspections of guestrooms and other assigned areas to ensure cleanliness, presentation, and readiness meet company and brand standards.
      • Ensure guestrooms are properly prepared for guest arrivals and room status is accurately communicated to the appropriate lodging team members.
      • Work closely with Front Desk and other lodging leaders to prioritize room readiness and respond to changing operational needs.
      • Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests, concerns, and service recovery opportunities.
      • Ensure guest requests are communicated to the appropriate team members and completed in a timely manner.
      • Identify maintenance issues, safety concerns, or other conditions requiring attention and ensure they are reported and appropriately followed up on.
      • Maintain appropriate levels of linens, towels, amenities, cleaning supplies, and other housekeeping materials.
      • Monitor inventory and assist with ordering and replenishment of housekeeping supplies as directed.
      • Ensure housekeeping carts, storage areas, laundry areas, and workspaces are clean, organized, and maintained according to established standards.
      • Ensure chemicals and cleaning supplies are properly labeled, stored, handled, and used in accordance with safety requirements.
      • Coordinate with other departments and leadership to address operational needs and maintain efficient guestroom turnover.
      • Assist with special projects, deep-cleaning initiatives, seasonal preparations, and other departmental priorities as assigned.
      • Support the Director of Lodging with implementation of department goals, initiatives, and process improvements.
      • Review and respond to operational challenges and make recommendations to improve efficiency, quality, and guest satisfaction.
      • All other duties as assigned by leadership.

      Guestroom & Housekeeping Standards

      The Housekeeping Manager must be knowledgeable of the essential duties and standards of all assigned housekeeping positions and be able to perform or assist with these duties when needed, including:

      • Cleaning and disinfecting guestrooms and bathrooms according to established standards.
      • Replacing bathroom and bed linens according to brand standards.
      • Making beds according to brand standards.
      • Removing trash and vacuuming guestrooms.
      • Cleaning bathrooms, including tile, tub, walls, sink, floors, and other surfaces.
      • Removing contents from refrigerators between guest stays.
      • Cleaning and dusting tables, furniture, and other surfaces.
      • Restoring sofa beds as required.
      • Replenishing guestroom supplies and amenities.
      • Stocking housekeeping carts with necessary linens and supplies.
      • Accurately reporting room status and maintenance concerns.
      • Maintaining carts and bumpers to prevent damage to walls, doors, and property.
      • Protecting guest belongings and immediately turning in lost and found items.
      • Performing other housekeeping duties as necessary to support the operation.

      Education & Experience

      • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
      • Minimum of 1 year of housekeeping or hotel/lodging experience required.
      • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
      • Previous hotel or lodging housekeeping leadership experience strongly preferred.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold team members accountable in a fast-paced operational environment.
      • Experience working with room inspections, housekeeping productivity standards, scheduling, or labor management is preferred.

      Language

      • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
      • Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

      Requirements

      • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws.
      • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on business needs.
      • Must have reliable transportation to and from scheduled shifts.
      • Ability to comply with all uniform and appearance standards.
      • Must possess strong customer service skills and the ability to resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns in a positive and professional manner.
      • Must possess strong leadership, communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
      • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to identify areas requiring attention or corrective action.
      • Ability to prioritize and reprioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
      • Ability to follow direction while also exercising sound judgment and initiative.
      • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding team member and guest information.
      • Ability to effectively communicate with team members, guests, and leadership across departments.

      Physical Requirements

      • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for the majority of the workday.
      • Ability to frequently stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above shoulders.
      • Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
      • Ability to withstand heat and humidity in certain areas of the hotel.
      • Ability to consistently use hands to grasp, control, and move objects and tools.
      • Ability to tolerate prolonged exposure to dust, dirt, and cleaning chemicals.
      • Ability to perform housekeeping duties and assist with guestrooms when operationally necessary.

      Working Conditions

      • This role will predominantly be based in an indoor lodging environment, with some exposure to outdoor environments.
      • Exposure to variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions.
      • Subject to the handling of and exposure to oils, chemicals, detergents, and cleaning products.
      • Subject to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
      • Subject to constant or repetitive motion.
      • Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens; proper PPE is required in these situations.
      • May be required to work in areas with limited space or during periods of high occupancy and operational demand.
